Anyone know what size socket to bang onto the lug lock to take it off without the key?
The last time I saw my lug lock key is when I took the car to Kuettner.
My front pass tire is trashed. The sidewall is wheel cut for about 12".

I abandoned my car in the lot.
I couldn't get lug nuts to replace the wheel locks last night. I checked three stores and not one had the lug nuts. Is a M12x1.5 that difficult to stock?
I'm going to try a parts shop on 27th street that usually has what I want. It was the only shop that had more than two lug nuts for my wife's old Ford.
I figure a 13/16" pounded on when a cloth is over the lock will get the thing tight enough to break it free with the breaker bar.
If that doesn't work I'll take a chisel and hammer from the center to one edge in a counter-clockwise fashion to loosen the lock.

Sears sells these special socket ends (1/2 inch drive) that have a 5 spoke spikes with in a swirl pattern inside them. They work great for something like this. I can not remember off the top of my head what they are called...

I broke two chisels and gave up with that idea.
I tried to cut a slot down the center with a Dremel and cut-off wheel. I was able to cut a good slot easily with power from my 150w inverter. I have a large 1/2" drive to straight screwdriver bit that I tried to turn it with. The bit kept slipping and the cut was deep enough to show the stud.
I was about to say F it and go get some pipe at the hardware store.
Yesterday I tried a 19mm 6 point which is too small and I tried a 20mm 6 point which is slightly too large. Today I had my 12 point set. Hurray the 19mm 12 point hammered on and I could break the lock free.
I have the wheel off now and the spare in its place.
Now I must go find a replacement tire. BFGoodrich g-Force T/A (KDWS) 245/45zr17 95W M+S Lot No. ? (E4) 0215122
If I can't find a good matching replacement I guess I must replace the set.

That shouldnt be a hard tire to get ahold of. its a very popular size. You may have to wait a couple days for one, but any rim/tires place that sells bfg tires should be able to order one. also, tirerack.com and discount tire direct (tires.com) should both be able to ship you one withing 2 days. Just call around or check prices on the net.

I called F&F tires on Hwy 100, where I bought the set on the car and they have them in the warehouse.
My appointment is tomorrow at 11:00 AM.
I was quoted $132 w/o installation.
