Looks like I'll be solo, so I may join in the crowd.
Just keep me posted, don't feel very comfortable driving over there by myself Wednesday night in the dark.

I think I'm flying solo, too. I'll be in my company's Lisle office on that Wednesday ... probably work a half day and hit 294 around 2:00. Maybe with expert timing I could catch up to the caravan or the caravan could catch up with me.

Why is it so hard to get anyone with a brain? So I get the Trip Tik from AAA... Whence I spoke with them on the phone they warn me about construction on the Skyway... Guess which way I'm routed? And why in the hell would they bring me down 294 only to send me over on 290 back INTO downtown??? Anyone? I say tri-state, unless someone knows something I don't. Who all has iPass besides me? Best, SJ

I was going to get one but they are not selling them online right now. I may try to pick one up on the way.

Okay, here's the most current info I have... 1. There is a al ot of construction on the pay cash toll boths from the stateline down to to 294 -- the iPass lanes are done. 2. She had no idea why they routed me 290 back to the Skyway 3. She indicated if you have an iPass, it will be helpful 4. She did recommend taking the Tristate all the way around. However, it sounds like whether we are on the Skyway or have come from the Tristate to 80, there is construction right around where 65 comes into the show and it affects both the Skyway and 80 -- so expect that Now, I also think there is a NASCAR race in Chicagoland this weekend, which means Saturday night could be congested on the way home. I guess the Busch race starts at 3p -- anyone know where the track is? Is it in Joilet? Do tell. Much to do. SJ EDIT: I almost forgot -- she seriously recommended getting up and leaving at 4:30a...

Hey, my work plans changed, so now I can roll out on Wednesday from milwaukee if there's a caravan happening.
- My plan is to take 294 all the way around. - I have an I-Pass and will be using it to go through Open Road Tolling ... the cash tolls (which would accept I-Pass, too) are just too much of a cluster-fukk right now for me to justify not using the full-speed Open Road Tolling. The drivetime difference could be as much as an extra half our to use the cash lanes. This might mean I won't be in the caravan if most of you are doing cash lanes? - The chicago race track is down by Joliet, pretty far away from 294 on 55. I got caught in that traffic last year as people were leaving, but it was on 55 itself, I don't remember any issues on 294. Maybe if we're crossing the IN/IL border at the same time as people are heading to the track, there might be some noticeable volume, but I wouldn't expect much.

And with me nursing it, I know I'd feel better in a group during mid-day, with the best chance for the least bit of the invasion of Normandy surrounding us all... SJ

Ok, here is the plan. Wednesday July 11, 2007. Meet at Oscar's on HWY 100 at noon. Get some food, if we are hungry, then head out to NG taking I-294 all the way around Chicago. Arrive in MI many hours later, find liquor store, purchase beer. Drink beer, and OWN the FRS chat for the next four days.

hmmm, this ipass nonsense is getting rediculous. We can not let a white plastic box seperate the caravan to the national gathering. Mrink, that kinda talk will get ur a55 kicked. I shall be there at noon as per the plan then. Everyone should have radios, maps, cell phones, road beers. Wait, not that last one. I will be bringing some tools, extra coolant, synthetic oil, spark plugs, jumper cables, and my jack. I hope we enjoy a smooth (although slow at times) cruise to the krunk fest....I mean ng.

As a suggestion, as I've run with folks that have them and don't is, that we (gasp, God-forbid ) slow down to the speed limit in and around the toll booths which enables everyone to catch up rather easily, if everyone fans out across to be in separate lanes at the cash bins. It was truly a non-issue -- even for JohnnyH... That should keep us all together. Let's try Channel 3 for the FRS's folks. See y'all at Noon. SJ

Quote: if everyone fans out across to be in separate lanes at the cash bins. It was truly a non-issue My experience this year is that things are a bit worse than previously -- perhaps I will be wrong. I don't think you can convince me to do the cash tolls like a sucker, but I would be okay driving slow until people catch up, I suppose. Y'all should just have I-Passes, lol ... I think I've had mine for over 5 years now.
