So we got back to the quest for the perfect tune on Saturday. We changed the 20k iridium plugs out for some copper champions (after spending all day looking for NGK coppers) and put on the EGR Block of plates. I have some NGK's on order, so I'll be getting them on Tuesday, but I wanna see how the champions work out for me.
We went out and did a few pulls, and as soon as we went above 16 psi we started to get blowout. So we went back to the garage and Greg goes, "ok, lets gap the plugs down." "What? I thought they were gapped down to 0.030" He replies, "No, I thought you said 0.038." "Oh, my bad, I thought I said 0.03-Oh." "oh, 'oh'. I got it."
So we gapped them down to 0.030 (my coils could use to be replaced pretty badly. I'll hopefully get to that soon.) and headed back out to do a few more pulls. The car really pulled pretty strong, but had some hesitation. Greg said that we were to rich, and instead of him leaning out the fuel he goes, "just turn up the boost. If I see any knock I'll let you know." So we did a few more pulls like that on a fairly abandoned stretch of highway. We got the car up to 17.5 PSI before we called it a night. We then headed back to the garage.
We let it idle for a bit in the garage until we heard some pretty massive lifter tick and a second noise that was fairly quiet. so we shut the car down, and the oil smelled like gas. Time to drain the oil. From not turning up the boost high enough and staying on the throttle through a bit of the hesitation I had allowed the oil to get fairly saturated with gas. So we drained the oil, and checked it for bearing particles, but we got to it quick enough. (At least so far that's what it looks like.) So the car sat until we picked up some brand new oil the next day.
As a side note: Go mobil one. that shit kicks ass.
So the next day after changing the oil and playing with a few more things we headed back out and did a few more runs. We leaned out the partial throttle runs as they were pegging the narrowband oxygen sensors, and we didn't want to dump fuel in the oil again, and then we headed back out to the highway.
Once again I leaned it out by turning up the boost. Car pulls really strong and Greg can no longer keep the laptop open when I hit the gas.
I'm running 18.5 PSI (holds to redline. have log to prove it.

) with no knock anywhere through the RPM band, I'm running about .96 ~ .98 volts for the O2's. I have 19* of timing advance. (all stock, E-manage is at zeros) It probably should be about 21* advance, but I'll get to play with that later. I'm at 100% injector duty cycle on the logger, which probably reads a tad high, so there still may be a bit more to get. I have the stock Y-pipe with a new hose clamp. It holds so far pretty well.
I'm still on the stock clutch, so I forsee that going to hell shortly. until I get back from the nationals I think I'm only allowed to do highway rolls.
My next two purchases will probably be a WB O2 and a new clutch. and an end seal to fix the damn oil leak.
I'll grab the G-tech and post my time slip later. j/k. I'm aiming for a 14.9 in the quater. I'll run that time at the nationals. just so that I can be the slowest DR500 car EVER, and I can get flamed on 3si. I promise.
Over all I'm extrodinarily impressed with the car. It hauls.
I've got some 100 octane to dump in before we start playing with timing.
Big Props Goes out to -=Matt=- and -=Greg=- Without them I'd be changing plugs yet. and running 11 psi.
Matt I already talked to my uncle about the bracket. hopefully I'll have at least a pattern lickity split so I can get your buttons back to you.
Also: Warning. Check your 3SX stainless brake lines before you go driving. we had one that pissed fluid like nobodies business. Boo that.
