Okay, I think I've driven the car once to one of Zack's ball games since the Car & Driver event and certainly have had no time to wash it, so I found an opening a few moments ago with a little light to at least get it clean tonight -- only there is some kind of crap all over ths passenger side of it, and in spots around the other sides. Sticky, goo-eee (technical term) crap, like sap or something, only the car is garaged all the time and has been sitting -- and sitting. I washed it three times -- still there. Too dark now and I'm driving a minimum 12 hours tomorrow, so first chance back to it will be Monday night. Detailer? Goo-B-Gone? Beer? Bawls? I certainly don't want to have use tar and bug remover because then I have to wax it again -- and I just have no time for that before NG. I also have NO idea what this crap is or where it came from. Any suggestions? Best, SJ

If it's sap or oil, the only way I know of to clean it would be dishwashing soap. This would mean rewaxing the car or at least the part you cleaned. Hey, at least it runs and drives.

I use bug and tar remover on mine. the turtle wax stuff... I didn't know you had to rewax after that stuff. P.S. Don't use it on your windshield. I know, I know, I'm a dumb*ss.

The bug and tar remover I have doesnt seem to remove the wax. Atleast not enough of it to notice. The water still beads off.

Well, 12 hours and 690 miles later, I am back. didn't know the van could average 90. The camp was really cool though -- but we were so far north the only apved road was the two lane highway we were on (you should have sen the van). Anyway, had lot's of time to think about it today, and thought when I got home I'd apply some 4th grade science before I did anything -- and it worked. Real hot water is taking it off. So hopefully tomorrow (forgot, picking up MIL at GM at 7p), I'll give her a good hot bath and we'll never see this disease again. Thanks for all your suggestions and help. Best, SJ

Well, it's more than I thought -- like half grease, half adhesive. The hot water took off about 2/3 -- I'm struggling with the rest. Mainly on the passenger side, all four wheels, and spotty everywhere else.
Like a bad rash -- it seems to spread.
I can actually look at it tomorrow night -- first night off in weeks. I'll let you know how I do.
Best,
SJ

Hey all: I forgot to mention this, been running at Mach 2, BUT, I think I solved the big mystery. Monday night I went to wash the car after the long painful drive back from the NG (chicgao construction and large bugs were not too friendly to it). So, without thinking about all I had just endured, I grabbed the Mr. Clean gun, loaded it up with soap and started washing it like ususal. When I'm just about finished I can suddenly see the crap all over one of the wheels again. I quickly ran inside and got a bucket of real hot water and some car wash. Took an extra half hour, but I think I got it all off. The filter and soap were purchased recently at Target. I had used the gun several times this year without any problems. I inspected the soap chamber and it looked gummy. I tossed it. Something must have corrupted it somehow. What, I don't know. I remember seeing at Target that they had changed the gun and now had a whole case to go along with it. I'm guessing the had just improved it like a 2nd gen for it used to always leak around the soap fill and when you were done. But I wonder if they didn't change the soap formula as well. I dunno. Anyway, I'm debating on blowing $33 on a new version. That hot water bucket with car wash is looking pretty good right now, even though you could wash a car pretty quick with the Mr. Clean system. Oh well. Best, Sherlock

You could still use the gun for the spot-free rinse feature. That's the best part, anyways. Then you don't have to buy their proprietary soap or worry about goo. Just buy their filters and use it at the end of each wash.
