Yeah.... a while back my SPEC 4-puck clutch kind of 'exploded' and one of the pucks made its way out of the bellhousing and into the engine bay. We fixed that, but I guess there may have been a weak spot that I didn't notice the first time. So we're gonna weld the fsck outta it this time, and since I'm paranoid i'm making a steel support bracket too. If that fails, well then I'll throw down the cash for a new bellhousing, but thats half a months rent for me.

Wow. mental note. Don't explode my clutch. Need help shoot me a line. 655-4702. ask for Joe's crematorium. Tell them you have the spaded monkey. They'll know what to do.
So I got my e-manage in my car. And not just sitting on the passenger's seat. It's actually mounted in the glove box, with all of the wires runs to the ECU and it even runs afterward. first try. My father and Craig both looked at me and my mess of wiring like I was insane when I started Sunday morning. I took my sweet ass time, and triple checked the wiring after I was done. nothing to it. Turned the key to the on position. Green light. Good to Go. Turned the key further and the car fired right up. Sweet.
So I then read further in the instruction manual. I have the Support tool, not the E-01, so I need to download to the software to the main unit. I plug the USB port to my computer and to the main unit. Turn the key to the ON position, and open the Greddy E-manage Software. I go to the "Download to main unit" under Communitcation tab and nothing is there. I'm offline. hmmm. Change com port to port 2 and I'm online. hit download to main unit. It starts with the "progress window" with the clock to tell you how long you've been downloading. The booklet says it should take 2 minutes. ok. three minutes goes by I don't have a single blue box in the "progress window."
I cancel that attempt and start over. Hit the download button, and wait. this time I think maybe I'm just rushing it. So I head inside and leave the computer playing with the e-manage. five, ten, fifteen, and half an hour later I check on it. no progress. Boo. cancel, shut the computer down, and head inside for the night.
So this is where I am stuck. The main unit is mounted. I turn the car on and the green light comes on solid ~ showing no error codes. I have a yellow light for the communitcation light, and the laptop says online, but I can't download to the main unit.
It says something about unplugging the twelve pin connector, but I'm not sure I understand what it means about that.
Can anybody help?

What kind of laptop are you running (with what operating system)? Did the e-manage come with any driver disks?

dude, my low is already set to -2, mid at -4 and then 42,000 for the third... wait. no. nevermind. I am running my old school Compaq laptop from MSOE with windows 98 on it. the support tool box says it's compatible. (I believe that it said windows 98 and 2000.) The e-manage came with one CD. That was the install CD. I can try throwing that in while I try communitcating. The file that it wants to load to the main unit is located in the Trust (Greddy's hidden name) folder on my C: drive, though. Other wise I would have thrown the CD in last night. Another side note, my computer shows no extension for the file it's trying to download to the main unit... for whatever that's worth. I'm kinda wondering if I should see the E-manage communication light do something other than a steady on yellow light. if it needs to flash, or turn green, or something. But the 'puter says it's online...

So I'm assuming you're using a USB -> Serial adapter? If so what brand is it? I've heard of people having problems with some of them.
If you want you could try my adapter to see if thats' the problem, i'm not using it right now. I 'think' the light on the emanage should flash when its' transferrinng data, but I don't remember for sure since mine is mounted under the dash near the ECU.
And I got my car running again on saturday night. Every gear is so smooth now its' great to finally be able to shift normally again.

Sorry, my first language is dumb ass, not English.
I meant that I plugged the USB port into the E-manage, and the serial port into the computer. I have the cable that came with the Support tool. Silver with usb to main unit, and serial to the computer. If you wouldn't mind stopping by sometime this week with your computer and try hooking up I'd appreciate it. that would narrow it down to the unit or the laptop.
run down of what I did:
turned three rotary dials to set number of cylinders, maf type, ext.
hooked up connectors.
drilled hole in glove box for wire loom.
removed neccesary paneling.
wired into ecu
installed plugs into e-manage.
turned ignition to "ON" and verified green light.
Started car.
Shut off car.
turned ignition to ON
hooked up laptop.
tried to download software.
played with com ports to get online
tried to download software again.
turned engine on
tried again to download software
tried to view "realtime"
shut car of.
tried to down load again for a long time.
gave up and went to bed.

I also posted in the 3si E-manage thread, but everyone on that site is to busy talking about what brand oil to use, which is better ATX or MTX, and whether or not a base 3000GT can take an Enzo in the 1/4 mile... Soooo.... (actually Antero responded pretty quickly, but he also suggested I stop using a serial to USB adaptor because of my mad typing skillz) I was hoping him and/or mellon would be watching that thread today like a hawk today.

Ok. so I played with her some more tonight. Still no communication. I have a bit more info though. I'm trying to download GSC01.p as an update file from the hard drive in the trust folder. I have three COM port choices in the e-manage software. COM 1, COM 2, and COM 4. When I hook my computer to shiver's logger in my palm I use COM 1. Thes use the same serial port connector.
When I go into e-manage if I select COM 1 or COM 4 I can try to use realtime data, export or import, and it just sits there trying to connect. The "update main unit" selection is greyed out.
If I switch to COM 2 the "update main unit" selection is useable, but tries to download for ever. I'm using a compact Armada with three serial ports. one for a printer, one the the emanage fits in, and the reverse of the e-manage.
I am running support tool version 1.20 and update version 1.40 and that's about the extent of my knowledge.
So.... still help???

I hate to say it Adam, but Windblows 98 (2nd edition is much better) can be very buggy. If you haven't done a fresh install lately, that might be your problem.

Fresh install of E-manage software or windows 98??? I don't have windows 98. It got reimaged before I left school. It was the biggest most raw deal ever to come out of MSOE.... I have a different laptop with 2000 on it, but that does not have a serial port.

ttangel wrote: Fresh install windows 98 I might be able to hook you up with that. I still say it's a driver issue though. Bring everything to the UMG. Let me tinker with it.
