yeah, about that. she was completely hitting on you. I was just the ugly approachable freind so that she could work her way into a conversation with you. Edit: besides, I'm holding out for the bartender.

Don't give me that. You turned her away, and she came over to me. Betcha the girl from Taco Bell wants your number too.
Looks like we're good to go for another Sat. night to Sunday event this weekend. Providing we don't strip the front turbo feed line banjo bolt (where it goes into the oil filter housing), and your gaskets arrive in a timely fashion, things should go together fairly quickly.

I've had bad luck with stripping the threads in 2 separate housings before when reinstalling the banjo bolt. That's why I made that comment. I was telling Adam about that before his friends came over, and we were trying to decide how much farther we should go before calling it a day.
Thanks Jeff.

Hell, I'll admit that the girl from taco bell wanted my number, but the bar chick was into you. That may work out. Free spicy chicken burritoes? Awesome! gasket are on order from mitsu, garuanteed to arrive on Friday. The stud is proving a little more difficult, but I still have one metric hardware shop to stop at yet. does anyone know the grade on that stud? Then I need to stop at an exhaust shop of my freinds and show him the dp(2) and catback(1) gaskets and get those. that should be all of the back together stuff that we need. Does the oil filter housing come off easily? how much are they roughly. If your seriously that worried about it I'll order a spare if it's not to much...

Ok, so Greg and I worked on the car all weekend. Brett stopped by on Saturday to check on the car, so that chewed up a fair amount of time(not that I mind, I just don't want to get called a slacker for the amount we got done ), plus shuffling cars around for my family to get in and out of the garage which I have completely taken over. Saturday we reassembled, mostly. rear turbo in, fitted the Down Pipe, which wasn't to bad. Time consuming more than anything. We went to mount the front turbo and the braided stainless steel oil feed line from 3SX DID NOT FIT. AT ALL. ZERO CHANCE OF IT EVER FITTING. Maybe my car is different then most, or every other car out there, but from the oil filter housing were the banjo bolt screws in the line comes off at a 90 degree angle. with the silver fittings that they use it had to go straight for about an inch. up about 3/4" was a bolt hole. down about 1/2" was another bolt hole. both for the AC support bracket. We thought that we would be able to get it come out the "webbing" for the bracket and then behind the AC compressor, but no dukes. We also did not have the tools readily available to modify it that day. [rant] Also it runs in contact with the manifold/engine block. I'd rather not have my oil line right there, but what were we going to do, we need a new feed line. For the amount of money they charge for the "better" lines you think they would work. this is the second kit out of 2 3sx kits that I've seen that has had fitment issues. And mine was a stock set up, what's the reason for not having correct fitment? [/end rant.] So that set us back big time. We futz with stuff for the rest of the night, then hit up the bars again. I thought Greg was dead the next morning. We booked it out to my uncles fairly early (8:00) to modify the braket. We had to cut off the top center bolt hole and supports around it. Then everything fit like a glove. We then stopped to get a few new steel washers, and some copper crush washers for the oil and coolant lines. Those are a pain and are easily forgotten about in a turbo swap. They also like to fall and dissappear. So to anyone doing this in the future I recommend getting extra. We then put the turbo on. bolted everything up. all the lines to the turbos, blah blah blah. then look at the return line sitting on the floor. Somehow we go the return line off while the turbo was on the car, so we thought installation was reverse of removal. not the case. turbo and lines come off. return line gets bolted up. Front Turbo reinstalled. can't get the mani-turbo bolts to line up now. Strip the first few threads of the back bolt. son of a b***h. turbo comes back out. head down by my cousin Craig and chase the threads out. head back up. still wont line up. get pissed off, grab the meanest nastiest pry bar I have, head under the car and reef on the return line until it moves freely, beat on the turbo exhaust housing until the bolts slide in. The turbo and return line are sitting ON the bracket for the motor mount support to the block. That's why it was such a pain. not sure if that's normal. We then started with the soft pipe and the radiator. then got the last accesory belt on. We then pressure tested the car. It has a huge leak from the rear turbo out of the inducer to the intercooler pipe right by the throttle body. that's where we stopped. It was late and Greg needed to get home. So he cleaned up and left. I put the tire back on the car and let it off the jack for the first time in two weeks. We left the wheel well shields off to diagnose possible problems that may arrise. I also am not bleeding profusely. I did pop the scab off my knuckle which bled for about 10 minutes, but it's all good now. So I still need to get a new o-ring for the rear intercooler pipe, or get one that's a size bigger. I need to re-pressure test, and fix any other leaks. I then need to fill it with coolant, change the oil, and reconnect the MAS, and then I should be ready to start the car. check for coolant leaks and oil leaks. I'm not going past that step so that I don't jinx it. (please no rear turbo fluid leaks.... please!) Over all this project has been fun, and I have learned alot. I believe that it has been well worth my time, but I will never change these turbos out for new ones in the same spot. If I ever feel the need to go faster then DR500's I will make custom manifolds and go with a single turbo where the MAS is. This "two hard to get at turbos" is complete B.S. with all the softpipe crap out of the way, and the MAS and battery gone there is enough room for a basket ball sized turbo. I have no idea why more poeple do not do this, but still complain about how difficult swapping turbos are. Yes, I realize that custom work sucks, but I don't think my experience with "stock" or "like stock" parts has been that much easier. So I will give something else a try next time. Besides, by the time I get around to it Brett will have all the kinks worked out on his T-88H setup, so I'll be able to just copy that. BIG THANKS TO GREG FOR HIS HELP, AND BRETT FOR HIS BEER.

Glad you enjoyed it!
Yeah we'll have to work out the kinks for the T88, but that may be too small, maybe I should call up Sound Performance...

You baby. It wasn't that bad. We were just getting frustated from lack of sleep and stripped threads.

We were just getting frustated from lack of sleep and stripped threads. I was tired, and frustrated after the turbo barely fit the third time. There is no reason to have a turbo sitting on a engine mount bracket. Do you hear me Mitsubishi???!!!??!? Isn't the front manifold the one that cracks as it collects to the main pipe? I can't imagine why... by the way, that is not nearly me at my most frustrated. Sometime when I'm working on the jag I'll call you up. That car knows what buttons to push. try to change an accesory belt on that engine. you can see it, get everywhere around it, but you can't get it off. the engine has two timing chains that the motor must be removed just to see. I'll run her till she snaps then do a 350 conversion. less wieght by 200 lbs, and more horsepower. Damn brits mess everything up. That's why they drink warm beer. Problem is that their cars are just sex on wheels. anyways... I am glad that we caught the threads before we did damage to more then the first go around. Glad to see you made it back safely, too. Was there any jello-necked head bobbing on the way back? I think that Matt could whip out some headers for a single turbo in hurry if we took some good dimensions. I wouldn't mind having my engine on a stand for a while in the intrest of r&d. not right now, but I wouldn't mind it happening. I cleaned the garage last night. I have your chinese fingers. I am also missing my 21mm 1/2 socket. I think it may be in the engine bay/front bumper somewhere. sigh... this is why I don't have any Matco/snap on tools... The red cars are satan's spawn. but they're fast

Damn, how much did we drink on Saturday? I don't think I went 5 minutes without a beer in my hand. No more 2 am taco bell runs anymore either...

I woulda drank alot more but I knew in my mind I'd be out cruising around later that night, instead of following you fools to the bars Gonna have to plan another event Adam, was quite a bit of fun You need to meet one of my other friends, if you ever saw a Gold 240 SX driving around Green Bay about 2 years ago, that was his. Big ass FMIC, veilside kit.... oh yeah RB26 motor in it too... well that flipped off a trailer so now he's puting the RB in an RX7... I think you'd like him

I wanted to go to bed, you wanted to go to taco bell at 2:30 AM. It was fun watching TWO car accidents while waiting in line for taco bell. How do you hit the car in front of you while waiting to order fast food? I've always liked 240sx's with the mean engine in it. an RB would be alot of fun in one of those cars. if I was going to put a different engine in an RX-7 it would be a three rotor wankel from a cosmo. then balance it, port it, and spin the little f**ker 12,000 rpm. It'd be like a formula one car with a body. for the first 30,000 miles until you need a new engine... We can work on some sort of get together once it gets hot out. I've got two ideas bouncing around. 1 ~ We can have another wrench turning session with burp and fart club. lots -o- fun and we get stuff done too. 2 ~ I'm thinking fast cars and a beach so that there are girls in bikinis involved. I have the beach, can find the fast cars, but will need help with the girls in bikinis... I can sposor the realistate in both cases, if there's intrest.
