Stopped at dodge city on 27th. The service manager said that they will not replace the xcase, no matter how much damage there is, and Im pretty sure my bearings are fawked in the inside. I could also feel it just start to lock up on the way home from up north on Monday. They said they only rebuild them and the recall is only ment to fix the leaks. The problem is, is I need a new xcase so I dont have to pay for a new input sleave. Any suggestions? I might go up to Hub South tomorrow.

I had mine done at Wilde Dodge in Waukesha off Hwy18. Dave Lange took his 92 RT/TT there as well. Both of us just got the seals replaced, however that really was the only problem with ours. Transfer case itself was fine.

I have the full recall TSB from mitsutechinfo.com and it explains that for Mitsu's they must inspect for leakage then drain and fill if no leak. If it leaks the seal must be replaced and maybe the case taken apart for inspection of gears. If damaged the Mitsu rep auths a replacement. I went to Kuettner and it leak at inspection so they replaced the seals and after that it leaked. I think they caused the second leak by not putting it back together right but I can't prove it (How else would a bolt be missing?). Mitsu replaced my transfer case so I guess all is well that ends well, at least till it leaks again.

So Kuettner did replace it for you? Can I even take my car there since mines an RT/TT and not a VR-4? I don't know if they do Stealths. It wouldn't surprise me if they didn't, but you might as well call them and find out.
I know MoparJim can fix them, but I don't know if he can do it under the recall reimbursement. I would call him and find out.

Mike, I'd just go to Kuettner in Waukesha. And for the last time, you can take it to any Dodge or Mitsu dealer. They are cousin cars build on the exact same Mitsubishi assebly line in Japan.

Just because the cars are the same doesn't mean the dealers have your type of correct logic. The two companies Dodge and Mitsubishi have different billing systems and dealer reimbursment methods.
Try it anyway. But don't be too disappointed if they don't allow it.

Kuettner won't work on Dodge. They can't *under recall*. Already went down that avenue... You will have to go to a Dodge dealer.
Renner and Kuettner both work on Dodges, but NOT for recalls.

Ya know, the t-case was leaking in my previous DSM, and it cost me something like $35 or for all the recall parts from Renner and a few hours of the day to replace myself. It's not hard at all. I'd assume it wouldn't cost much more if any for a 3/S, and I wouldn't be surprised if the parts are the same.
Could have had it done for free, but I didn't want to take the chance that it wouldn't have been done right. If anything on my car is going to be f%^ked up, it's going to be my fault.

From SR-02-003 Transfer case Leakage - Medic Update Safety Recall Campaign
Repair kit P/N MN156006 Seal Kit - Cost: Dealer Net
You need the recall sheet to know what should be done. Not all parts from the kit are used on all cars.
I'll post the recall sheet later when I have a chance.
Sorry this doesn't help your bearings. The whole unit should be replace under the recall because the bearing were damage due to fluid leakage. This is a federal DOT mandated recall Dodge has no choice about it. You can complain to the Fed. The number is on 3si's board.

JOE I wasnt laughing at you I was laughing with you. besides you dont have a transfer case either, but I do know you have turbo envy.
BUT I wouldnt trust any dealership with anything no matter how minor, too many bad experiences. and I have worked at too many and have seen what goes on in the service area and mmost times it aint pretty.
