Am I missing anything? They don't know what OS is on the two computers. They want to link them to one dial-up internet connection in the desktop and share via WiFi D-Link cards to a laptop. I'm not sure if it is a Ad-hoc setup or if they have a access point.
This is what I have.
1st CD- FireFox 1.0 best XPIs saved Thunderbird 0.9 AntiVir Personal (free) plus latest vdf Windows XP SP2 Network install Windows 2000 SP4 Network install Hijackthis Adaware SE Personal Analog X (proxy server) Superscan 2.04 (planethack edition) CWShredder Spybot S&D (but I don't believe in this to do the job by itself)
Other CDs - Windows NT 4.0 Workstation disk Windows 95 SR2.5 w/ USB disk Windows 2000 Professional disk Office 97 Professional disk Office 2000 Professional disks 1 & 2 (2) Knoppix disks BartPE disk
I don't have XP Pro or Windows 98/SE/ME disks at home. I have Windows 2003 Server disks but I don't think it will do any good.
Also I'll take my Libretto 110ct with an ORiNOCO Gold and netstumbler.

I like having Registry Mechanic with me in addition to Ad-Aware. You prolly won't need it, though.
And wtf ... your BOSS can't afford broadband and a normal network setup instead of this dial-up sharing nonsense??

I had hoped to get there 1.5 hrs before the party but a late start made it only 40 mins.
He had a Time Warner Cable Modem when I looked at it. He didn't know the difference. Most places in the Timbuktu sticks can't get cable modems can they?
All I had to do was add a UTP Cat-5 to make the POS D-Link the PAT router. I did MAC address copying and everything was setup in 5 minutes.
I used Adaware on the desktop (it was direct plugged into the web) and found 589 bad files, 5 bad processes running, 1 VX2 variant. I ran CWshredder to get rid of CoolWebSearch. The laptop had only 150 files no VX2.
I didn't get to add SP4 on the Windows 2000 SP3 machine nor SP2 on the Windows XP Pro SP1 laptop. Time just ran out.
The thing I forgot was a personal firewall. SP2 would have been okay for XP but Windows 2000's built-in doesn't make the cut.
All said and done I think the OS's should have been reinstalled because of all the spyware. I hate working on people's computer for them.

When a friend of mine complained about her computer being slow, I ran AdAware on it and it found more than 10,000 bad objects.

I think that almost beats the one on arstechnica.com If it get past 1000 I say it is a manditory re-install or just a switch. I installed FC2 on my wifes computer and all was well until she wanted to play the Sims.
