As taken from Rich Merritt's post on Team3S. Please read carefully and contact Rich directly via email (see below) if you would like to offer up your services for W3SI member George Bruggenthies during his One Lap of America event. Some of you met him up at Road America on Sunday during the Speed Seekers event.
Please understand the seriousness of the event and the level of commitment to be made here. This is not to be taken lightly.
Rich's message below....
-----
As you may remember from a couple of months ago, I told you that George
Bruggenthies, the president of Road America, is running a Stealth in One
Lap of America, which starts April 30 -- two weeks from now.
The schedule wasn't firmed up at the time, but now it is.
We need people along the route to act as a service crew in case George
needs some help. There isn't much you have to do. Just be available when he
passes through your area, know where to find a Mitsu dealer or late night
service, and be willing to provide whatever he needs, such as a wheel,
tire, oil, tranny fluid, and so on. You don't have to get up at 3 am and
wait for him to pass through -- just be near a phone in case he calls.
He won't be replacing a clutch at the side of the road, but if he needs to
fix something, you can definitely help. He may need a part, a tool, fluids,
or the name and location of somebody who can weld, align, fix flats, and so
on. For example, you might get a call from him on the road, saying he is 50
miles away, needs to get a tire fixed, and where can he stop? What he needs
most of all is somebody to call when he has a problem, so you should
acquaint yourself with the location of the Mitsu or Dodge dealers plus
all-night Wal-Marts, parts stores, service stations, and truck stops in
your area.
Here is the schedule and most likely route. Figure that they will complete
the events and hit the road at any time from 3pm to 7 pm, and average the
speed limit as they make their transits to the next event.
Friday, 4/30: South Bend Indiana Tire Rack event, wet skid pad. Transit to
Heartland Park, Topeka, KS, via I 80, 235, 35, 70
Saturday, 5/1: events at HP then transit to Pikes Peak, Colorado via 70,
24, 25.
Sunday, 5/2: events at PPIR then a transit to Infineon Raceway, Napa
Valley, California, via
25, 80, 15, 80, CA37.
Monday 5/3 afternoon: events at IR then transit to Las Vegas Motor speedway
via CA37, 80, 780,
680, 5, CA119, CA58, 15, 515.
Tuesday 5/4: events at LVMS then transit to Pueblo, CO via 15, 70, 470,
25.
Wednesday, 5/5: events at Pueblo then transit to Hallet, OK via 25, 24,
70, 35, 412.
Thursday, 5/6: events in both directions at Hallet then transit to Road
America, Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, via 35, 80, 88, 39, 90, 43, 67.
Friday, 5/7: events at RA (in the dry I hope) then transit back to South
Bend Tire Rack via 67, 43, 94, skyway , 90
Saturday, 5/8: events at TR dry skid pad then Party and transit home.
If you live along any of these routes, and are willing to make yourself
available to help George if he needs it, send me an email:
merritt@cedar-rapids.netwith your name, location (city/state), and phone number. I will pass it
along to George.
With luck, he will not call you and just pass through your area with no
problems.
Still, it will be nice to know that you are there if he needs you.
