It's a 95 pearl white Sl. Bought it as a project car. Doing the TT conversion during summer, along with a 99 front end, fmic, 99 sails, and the hoop spoiler. After that, new exhaust. Then, later on in the year, i'm hoping to drive it down to Florida for the AWD conversion. Finally, new paint. So, it's a pretty big (and expensive) project.

Need a TT parts car? I've got a 1st gen if you're interested.

Thanks for the offer, but I already have all the TT parts. Yeah, i'm hoping everything goes alright, the TT conversion doesn't seem too hard.

why dear lord why?
Did you get your first BJ in that car? Otherwise I'm just not certain if I see enough emotional attachment to it. Just sell the car and buy a TT.
Or better yet, buy an actually fast car, instead of one of our money pits.
Oh, yeah, welcome to the board.
You should sign up for the UMG. We can drink beer and talk about insane projects that sound cool, and everyone wants to do, and after you get done you're like... 'wow, that was a lot of effort that I could have used in a better place.'

Because, im learning so much about cars. I bought this car only knowing how to do an oil change. Now, i've changed my oil, replaced my IAC, i'm swapping out my radiator this week, learned how to do minor paint/prep work, learned how to install body panels (99 sails) and much more. I actually feel confident to do the TT conversion. I don't think a vr4 is a good car to learn cars from, there is too much that can go wrong.
I would like to point out that I am paying for all of this myself. I'm also doing all the labor myself. I know it may seem rediculous to you (and many others) but i'm proud of what i've accomplished so far, and i'm sticking with the project.
I am signed up for the umg. I'm 17, so I couldn't book my room by myself, and my mom is being laid off from harley davidson, so she will be there for a vacation. No drinking for me. Next year though, i'll probably be getting shitfaced every night.
Sorry for the long post.

Sorry for the long post. Nothing wrong with the long posts... Just make sure you spell correctly. Or I'll chase you down. Actually I don't really care. I spell horribly. TT conversions are fairly cheap, and not overly difficult. Most of the crap just bolts right up. I'm not certain I'd want my daughter running 14 lbs of boost in a sports car at 17, but I'm also not here to harp at you, as I'm pretty certain that I was 20 when I started messing with crap... So, just be safe. 17 moves fast enough on it's own. All of my turbo parts went to hammersly for his NA to TT swap, where we all proceded to get drunk and throw up on his new shiny rims. I don't really remember much else, but if you need help I've been elbows deep in engine bays for quite some time now. What are you doing for the oil pan and the ECU stuff? The oil pan isn't really that big of a deal, but the ECU stuff can be a pain. start planing and reading now. I will see you there, and we will definitely talk about projects. I'll show you my "I learned alot" project, and maybe we can drink some root beer. Or not. depends if Hammersly rims are anywhere in the parking lot. I have a reputation to uphold. Why are you swapping out the radiator?

I'm lucky to have a mother that (for the most part) trusts me at 17. As far as teenagers go, i'm pretty responsible, and she knows that I won't abuse the car after I do the TT swap.
If i'm not mistaken, I can just use a regular TT oil pan, correct? And I havn't made up my mind about the ecu yet. Yeah, i've done a shit load of reading about the TT swap, so i'm hoping I shouldn't have too many problems. But if I do, I would love some help.
As for the radiator, I got a 1.25 in. thick radiator for an absolute steal, I believe the stock is 1", right? So I figured I would replace it for shits and giggles.

As far as I know the NA radiators are thinner than 1", but I don't know for certain. You could check the picture Greg posted in the 3sx radiator thread in the car related section. That has the pictures, and I believe widths. As far as I know you cannot just use a TT oil pan. I want to say something about the hump was different. I also know that my TT oil pan is aluminum, where as I believe Hammersly's oil pan was steel, not that it would make much of a difference unless you were trying to weld to it... like we needed to so that Hammersly could do the TT swap. The return lines are hard piped for the stock turbos, so you may want to think about a braided SS hose for the return, as it will be easier to find a fitting to weld up. Unless of course, I'm wrong, and the TT oil pan will just bolt up, but I don't think so. EDIT: now that I think about it for a bit, I believe we did just make some holes and weld some nuts on the inside of hammersly's oil pan so the stock return lines would work... but to be honest, I'm getting old and my memory is hazy. I'd check out a write up about it.
