Hello all
It's been awhile since my last post. I have a 94 Stealth RT Luxury that I bought 2 years ago. It had 40k miles and I paid 7500 for it. Since then I have put about that much back into keeping it. New lifters and some engine work (which never really got rid of the ping) Rebuilt transmission from Mitsubishi, and New aftermarket tires and rims. The car is not the original color. It is Midnight blue which I like alot better than the original blue it was. But driving it for a year on highway has left alot of chips and small dings here or there.
The other day I was washing it with the sprayer at the carwash and you might guess what happened......yep a half-dollar piece of paint flecked off the middle of the hood!@#! So I figure it's time to see that paint guy and deal with all of the problems at the same time.
He wasn't willing to take on my stealth because it was paint over old paint. The rock chips on the front are on a plastic nose that would need to be replaced instead of painted. A large 8 in. scratch is on the back just behind the tire (I think that is plastic also?)
There is a bottle of touch up paint that was in the glove when I bought it, but I wouldn't know how to make it look right with the little rock chips....The big paint chip is another story. Should I just get the hood repainted and forget the many small rock chips in the nose? or should I swallow my pride and beg the wife to let me do it right and do a full repaint costing thousands? Is the nose even available anymore?
finding parts scares me!
btw the paint guy says that the paint falling off will happen again when weather gets under the rock chips. I'm not so worried about that because I have decided to keep it garaged and used for good weather driving instead of daily use.
Any comments welcome
Jason

Jason: I have a real issue with pressure washer car washes for this reason. The nose can be sanded and repainted. Just ask me -- mine is being done now... Scratch could probably be repaired as well. 3000GT noses are available -- just ask me. Stealth? Contact Eric at 3SX if you can't get one from somewhere else -- he just told me he has some. Why can't just the nose and hood of this monster be repainted? Can you get us some pictures? Where are you located? SJ

Me thinks you can still buy the front bumper cover new from the dealer. I think the price is probably in the ballpark of $300 with a W3SI discount.
Most likely your paint is peeling due to poor prep work and sanding before it was repainted. Shouldn't be a problem to reapaint any of the parts provided they are sanded down to the original paint layer or to bare metal/plastic.

And the 1st gens only come in freakin' white... 2nd's in black, 3rd in red. That's it. And yes on the second part for sure. I'm becoming an expert in a field I never wanted to learn... SJ

Precisely why I had mine brought back to base, re-bead blasted, re-primed, then re-painted. That was about 5 years ago and it still looks great, thank goodness I did it right.
