Owwwww. Sounds like you need to buy my 92 SL and transfer your turbos, etc to it. I can deliver to the UMG Jhammer wrote: UPDATE: Life sucks. The motor is done. Running a compression test on the front three cylinders gave me the following results: cylinder 1: 0 cylinder 3: 135 cylinder 5: 35-55 After getting these results, I didn't even bother pulling the plenum to check the back bank, it isn't going to change the results. This might be it for me for the season.

Son uv a biatch. Suxors big time. Were the valve cover and intake plenum clean inside when you put them on?
Well, now you have lots of time to get your stereo in it and make things shiny.

That really sucks! Hopefully you can find the $$ to get it back on the road this summer. I really like the look of your car.
I also wonder if your Plenum and valve cover were cleaned before installing them. I have heard horror stories where people install newly powder coated or polished covers and intake and didn't clean them. It happened that there was crap under the splash cover on the valve cover that came out when it was installed. I just polished my plenum and sprayed a ton of carb cleaner in it and also washed it out with a hard spray from a hose. I then blew it dry with an air compressor before installing it.
Now have you found out if it was crap in the oil or could you have jumped a belt and bent valves. I assume valves might be the better of the two possibilities. The other would be a total rebuild right?
Man I hate to see when another one of these cars go down for the summer.
Kyle

John called me last night and asked what the issue might be, and I said exactly what Jim did. I drove 10K miles with those polished pieces on my car so I doubt that's the issue.

Worst case scenario. Awful news John, sorry to hear it. Let me know if you need a ride to the UMG (or NG), I'll have an open seat. Sucks!

I did the compression test with John. Looking down the spark plug hole with 0 compression it appeared there was tiny bits of what looked like aluminum imbedded in the top of the piston. In my racing days that usually meant detonation. (I believe what you guys call knock)
Detonation is extremely hard on pistons, and even more so on cast ones. Obviously we won't know until the top of the motor comes off.
John: I don't know much about these cars yet but I'm only a few miles away and have most any tools you would need. If and when you need help let me know.

Timing marks are still dead on, so it shouldnt be timing, so i hope that means the valves are ok and I only blew up pistons. I will know more once I get the motor pulled out and cracked open. I am going to do everything in my power to get the car up and running before NG.

I feel your pain. I do have a 91 Turbo short block that spun the number 4 rod bearing if you want to do one. I also have the heads if you need them.

If chunks of pistions are moving around in the cylenders, chances are you have damage to the underside of the head as well (valves and all).
