While were were working on tuning the car this weekend we ran into a problem. The car died at a stop light a few miles from my house and it hasn't started since. Something happened to the spark plugs in 4 and 5 because the grounding straps were pushed up and were touching the tips of the plugs. We got the car home on a trailer and here it sits. I am out of ideas on what is wrong.
The motor turns over, it sprays fuel (you can smell that), and the plugs fire (held a few in my hands while cranking the motor), but it will never start or even really try to run. It appears that the car is flooding the second you turn the key to start it because you can smell gas, and when you pull a spark plug it is covered in gas. The plugs are brand new. I added a TT plenum and front valve cover this weekend, but I can't see how those would cause this. Ideas??! Things i need to test?!

Ah, Johnny, I'm sorry man. I'll let the "experts" help you on this one. I have no clue.
If I might offer this -- yank the eManage and start over?
Just a suggestion from you friendly neighborhood Spyderman.

I have been working virtually nonstop since Friday morning, and might not be understanding this clearly: Are you saying the tips of the plugs are "crushed", as if something "hit" them. Or are you talking about something else?

Or are you talking about something else? Yes, that is exactly what i am saying. After I put in the new plugs, I turned the motor over a few times and pulled plugs 4 and 5 out, and the new plugs are fine. I have no idead what happened with the other set.

4 and 5
So that would be from front and rear head then. Passenger side on front, and middle on rear. Sounds like detonation. Do you still have those plugs?
I'd suggest a compression test before you do much else - see what results you get. If you don't have one, you can borrow mine.

yes, i believe I still have the plugs, i know i have at least one of them anyway. Yes, I was thinking that I needed a compression test myself, I would love you borrow yours. What is it supposed to be on a 10:1 motor?

I'd like to look at that plug.
Compression on a used motor will be different than a new. You can do a wet or dry test. So on and so forth.
What's important? Are they all very close to each other? That's what we need to find out at this point, not be concerned with a "target number".
I'm suspecting they may not be equal - let's hope I'm wrong.
Give me a call and we'll figure out a time to meet. What part of town are you in?

John: I have a compresssion tester I can bring today if you need it. I believe compression on a 10-1 motor should be minimum 140 and 130 on an 8-1, correct me if i'm wrong. You know I'm close by and anything I can do to help let me know. Scott

UPDATE: Life sucks. The motor is done. Running a compression test on the front three cylinders gave me the following results: cylinder 1: 0 cylinder 3: 135 cylinder 5: 35-55 After getting these results, I didn't even bother pulling the plenum to check the back bank, it isn't going to change the results. This might be it for me for the season.
