sounds like the idle running high due to the cold weather. Mine has done that before. Including this morning at about 6am. It only lasted a few seconds and then went away.

Sorry I meant VICs as in the MVIC. Mitsubishi Variable Induction Control. It's the servo that switches between long and short runners on the intake.

ohhhhh
the sound kinda sounds like its coming from the upper driver side area in the engine, i dont know if that helps. it all drives fine nothing seems different or anything except it makes taht initial noise for a couple seconds.

Could the butterflies just be getting stuck open or closed for a second from the cold and moisture in the intake? Not 100% sure how they mechanically work.

Its us your power steering pump and belt. Mine does the same thing when it drops below zero. If you try to turn the wheel while its making the noise, it will turn all wierd. Thats how I figured it was the power steering stuff. Last year I actually had my power stearing blow out during the winter.....just check you fluid level in there and you should be fine.

Mine does the same thing too, on the cold morning from but only for a few seconds then goes away. I checked my fluids and my power steering was low, so i put more in. just have to wait and see if it does it again. Probably tonight since its suppose to be -35 degrees tonight Just wanted to let everyone know too, i just hit 250,000 on my N/A. i was going to take a pic of it doing 120 down the highway, but not when its been this cold out but i know she can still get up there...

does the sound more resemble a sick cow if so it is most definately your powersettring pump (check fluid levels and consider taking it in and having it flushed or you might end up with bad seals) been there done that but I learned the hard way (it emptied my wallet to get a new pump)

Yeah, I checked mine out. I was a little low on fluid. I topped it off, so I'll also see if it solves that noise. And yes, Craig, it sounds like a sick, whining cow.
