Road America folks: Just found out some bad news -- MFBA has chosen not to use our friends at Speedseekers (Dave and Dan) to run their events. After some further digging, I did find this company: http://www.mvptracktime.com/index.htmlNot sure if this is the replacement or not. They do still have an April and October event listed, just no specific dates. I'll keep you posted. SJ

I just heard from Tim De Young, President of the Midwest F-Body Association. RA dates added! PLEASE NOTE: Effective January 1, 2007, we can no longer accept Snell-95 certifications. This means all helmets must be Snell-2000 certification or higher. Please check your helmets to make sure they meet this requirement! Best, SJ

I've had further input from Tim DeYoung (President Midwest F-Body Association) and George Bruggenthies (President of RA and a W3SI member )... "There will be new pavement, as the portion of the track above the new tunnel was removed:" [img]http://www.w3si.org/images/scowan/RA-0407/road1214[1].jpg[/img] "The tunnel is going in under the track between 13 & 14 about where the crossover road was behind the barn. The track will not change. With the bridge gone there will be a new run-off area created and the run-off behind 14 will be increased. New spectator berm at 13 a number of walls moved back at 9 and 10, 10a & 10b (I asked for clarification here). New entry curbs and extended exit curbing in many areas." http://www.roadamerica.com/images/maps/ra_map_2006.pdfRegistration for the April event is now open: http://roadamerica.fbody.usThe cost of each participant that will be running a car is $200.00/$350.00(tax included). $200.00 - Includes (one participant entrance to be placed in a scheduled slot/group for Saturday, April 14 OR Sunday, April 15, 2007). The participant may choose to purchase up to two group slots with the same vehicle if him or her chooses. The vehicle WILL NOT run in consecutive groups. $350.00 - Includes (one participant entrance to be placed in a scheduled slot/group for Saturday, April 14 AND Sunday, April 15, 2007). The participant may choose to purchase up to two group slots with the same vehicle if him or her chooses. The vehicle WILL NOT run in consecutive groups. The payment of the participants can be made up to the day of the event. However full refund can only be given up to March 1, 2007. After April 1, 2007, the full refund will be less a $25.00 handling fee. Guest are able to join the fun, watch and ride-along's as passengers are available as long as the passenger has an approved helmet and working seatbelt that is fitted appropriately. The passenger can only be in the front seat and is 16 years of age or older. The cost per day for guest is $5.00(tax included) at the registration booth. Once guests/participants have checked in through the registration booth, they may leave and return as they please as long as they have there wrist band for that day. Best, SJ

To my great surprise, my Father is actually going to fly up for a ride. He is 75, an ex-State Trooper, ex-slick armed First Class Petty Office ASW on a tin can in the Korean War, ex-back stroke champion at the high school he never graduated from in Cleveland -- and he's 6' 4", 245 lbs. He was a bit... uh... strict... whence I was growing up, ya might say... He's been a pilot since the late '50's and has always had a plane or two. He currently owns a Skylane and has bought into his real love -- a Stearman (WWII bi-plane trainer). It's a monster of a plane. His love is up in the air, mine tastes like chicane. He's talked about entering our world for years, but scheduling conflicts always seemed to be an issue -- and frankly I was never sure if he really wanted to try this. Sooooooooooooooooooo -- I may trailer the car up to get him and the young lad in for the ride up. And that means I'll only be there Saturday, which blows, but what can I do? He'll not feel comfortable in our world, I guarantee it. He won't know what to do with all the noise and speed, and cars coming in and out of the pits, et al. I suspect Zack will be his host making him drive him all over for photo opt's with his new camera. Rest assured, he'll never be the same. I just pray for some really good weather. My aim would not be (and never is) to show off, but run some good laps and show him what our cars are able to do. So get ready -- he's big, he's mean, he's all business and serious and stuff. But he's also 1st gen Irish -- don't let him fool ya. It should be a good time. Looking forward... See you at the track. SJ

Okay, maybe this ain't gonna happen...
Here's what I just got from my Dad:
"I must caution you, however, that dear old Da has a serious problem with vibration, sharp movements, and alike. Can't even shoot long guns anymore. The reason (Cha-king) I had a detached retina, right eye, that required immediate and complicated surgery. The short explanation, they cinched my eye with a "belt", deforming the eye, and pulling the outer wall of the eye to the detached retina. Not even allowed to do loops or slow rolls. If I screw it up, I lose the eye. Thus, I may be a spectator (fine) with a "slow and easy" lap or two.
I will bring my Bell MC helmet, and we can go from there."
Anyone have any idea how many G's we pull in the corners? Carousel? He's saying MAX is 1G for him. This blows...

Okay, just a quick update... And a big thanks to our very own Dr. Jack Tertadian for his input and help on all this... As some of you already know, my Dad's Doctor said no way. HOWEVER, he feels, as Jack does, that the parade lap should work, as long as we take it nice and slow and pretty. So me Da is coming after all. I figure at minumum it will be a good bonding experience for him and Zack, as Zack will have him at every corner taking pictures anyways! Now, those of you whom have loaded these monsters on rent-a-wreck trailers -- please chime in on any tricks and tips. Me very nervous about breaking something, especially the front air dam and or side body work. I need to hit the lotto... Thanks, SJ

"there is no try, there is do and not do." ~ (or something like that...)

Popular Mechanics (or something similar) recently had a simple user tip to make extensions for trailer ramps. Seemed practical and easy enough. Let me whip something together in MS Paint real quick.

Thanks Matt! Stake was made out of metal? Glad I saved that extree lumber. You guys seen the latest photos? Thunder Valley is going to be SO WEIRD without the Mitchell Bridge -- that will take some getting used to I bet. And of course the new pavement will start right in our braking zone in turn 14... http://photos.roadamerica.com/gallery/2317236#136256136Have it out today here at work. Man I missed it! Best, SJ

Seeing as how we're probably the only cars that could tackle it, I have an email into Tim at MFBA to see if there are any plans to allow snow tires... I'll keep you posted. We'll see what happens here -- looks like my Father will bail (and who wouldn't?) so I may try and change my day to Sunday, if they will let me. This is the first time I've purchased time so far in advance, so I may not do this again. Best laid plans... I'll keep you posted. Best, SJ
