We'll Greg (and all) I finally got around, or rather Gabe got around, to pulling that hose that goes from the tranny to the radiator and it is not pumping tranny fluid. So a couple questions:
1. Is it just the pump that is bad or would it have ruined any gears on the way out? 2. Do I still have to take the entire tranny out of the car anyway to fix? 3. How big of a deal is it to fix this pump?
Thanks,
Bret

Does you have a CE light? Best to check that and see what's tripping it.
If not, pull the tranny ECU and see if it has leaky caps. If those are good, pull off the tranny pan & filter, and look to see if there are any pinched wires on the valve body.

No check engine light. You put the car in gear and hear it engage but it just revs when you hit the gas. There is a code on computer though, TPS, don't think that has anything to do with it. The rest I'll have to get back to you.

Naw, dataloggers aren't programed to read tranny codes.

Brett did you still want me to swap trannys for you? The motor is almost in the green car , hopefully thats out of the garage soon. But bug me about it so I have some incentive to get that one done and get yours in there.

Yeah, I gotta get rid of the avalanche quick-like, I'll bring the transmission down this week and bring the car down on a trailer next weekend or so.

Actually it would help out a lot if you could bring that tranny asap. The wiring in the tranny I have was all cut up and I'm not sure what goes where anymore. So thats kinda where it sits right now, I need to double check with your tranny before I do anymore.

Sure, I can bring it down Tuesday probably at the earliest. I have my son Monday nights. I may drop it off at your house during work tomorrow though if I'm down that way, where could I leave it? Also, the tranny I have is that JDM, so keep that in mind. I could also bring down my old tranny that I took out which is the standard one. Let me know.

I'd hate to make you bring both of them, I would imagine the JDM one has similar if not the same wiring. You can pretty much leave it anywhere I dont think anyone is gonna steal it, and I would bring it in out of the weather as soon as I get home.

sounds good. I'll put it in my truck today and see how my work day pans out tomorrow. You mentioned you know a guy that can swap out/rebuild the pump on the tranny I have in there now? I'd hate to scrap it when the gears are fine.

Ya I can have him look at it, if everything else is fine it would probably be a good idea.

Jason should be around tomorrow. If you see a pos ranger in the driveway you can make him help you unload it. Just come in he never hears the door.

What year is the JDM tranny? In 93 I believe they switched to a different temp sensor. Fortunately, you can drop the valve body and swap them.

Thanks for the info, already had fun with one of the sensors under the pan of a 91 tranny in a 2nd gen.

All 3 of my auto tranny's are 92 I believe, 2 are JDM and 1 is the tranny I pulled out of my car in the first place, should be the american build so there shouldn't be a problem on swaps. That did get me to thinking though:
The original tranny I took out because it only had 1st and 5th gears. The tranny in there now I'm taking out because the pump is bad, but the gears were all fine. Can I put the pump from the american tranny into the JDM tranny?
