Is it stuck in gear or just free revs? (we're talking about an auto tranny right?)

Auto tranny. I can feel it engage, but it just revs. The tranny fluid is full, proper color, but smells burnt. Chad said the front pump probably gave out. I was driving home, the last mile or so I heard a couple rough/loud shifts but nothing too terrible. Parked the car, next day, wouldn't go.

Have chad pull the hose that goes to the cooler (bottom of the radiator). Start the motor, put it in gear, and see if fluid comes out.
You could also try draining the fluid and refilling it (about 9 quarts).
