How do i know if they are bad?!?!
Its the rear hubs and if the car is on the ground and i move the tire from side to side (facing the tire) there is alot of play about 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch. Also the play is on both sides of the car. The struts/shocks have been replaced and the tires are new. The car also had an alignment done Any suggestions? I did a search on the net for symptoms of bad hub assemblies but didnt find what i was looking for.
BTW this is on my 95 neon.....
Thanks Brian

The hub assembly itself (as in just the knuckle) is probably fine (unless you've hit a curb recently). It's the hub BEARING that wears out. When they wear out, the wheel will either:
a: wobble like you described b: Make an aweful rubbing noise at higher speeds or when you turn
On a neon, I'm guessing it's a lot like the wheel bearings on a FWD 3/S where you need to press out the old one and press in the new one. You need some kind of a clamp with a large pressing surfase. On that'll go on an impact would be handy.

Its a sealed bearing inside the hub......its all one piece Im getting new ones anyways, the car has 145,000 on it. Thats all that seems to be making the play when i wiggle the tire back and forth. Everything else looks fine....ill let ya know. Gonna replace em tommorrow night unless something comes up

Ah yes. I can see why they set it up that way because the car is FWD and you mentioned it was the rear wheel that was the issue.

Figured out the problem.....
Its both rear strut mounts. There is major accessive play where the strut sits in the mount. so when the tire is being wiggled, its actually moving the whole assembly because of the rubber bushing being worn out.
