Any enterprising 3S'ers want to make some loot doing a complete engine swap on a NA DOHC?

Ah that doesn't sound good. Was the oil light really an internal problem?

talk to Jeff...
You should think about putting in a 3.5L for fun. You can get a good 3.5L for about $1000.

Ahh, belay your fears for my cars are running just fine. I found another 3KGT nearby with a blown engine for 500 bucks I was thinking about buying it and doing an engine swap if it's worth it.
Also, where do you get the 3.5L for about 1g?

A 3.5L out of a Sedona would fit into a 3kgt?

I believe you need a 6G74, from a Mitsubishi Montero?
It is not trivial swapping this thing in, there are a few folks on 3si who have done it though. Do a search there.

Throw it on a flatbed and deliver it to Milwaukee. I heard there's someone there who can do this type of thing for you. PM me for details...

I'll PM you, it won't be ready to be trailered by the 19th so I would have to schedule it down the road a bit.
New info though I don't think it will change the situation much. The poor bastard had just put new heads on it and a rebuilt tranny with only 10k miles. His son beat the hell out of it for a few weeks and threw a rod, blew a hole in the engine block. So all it needs is a short-block which probably doesn't make much of a difference for labor anyway and in fact may increase the labor involved but could save me money on the engine. May not save enough to be worth buying a short-block over a long-block though.

you will want to use those heads on your 3.5L that you're going to swap in.

I read up on the swap to a 3.5 and I don't think I'll waste the extra time and effort on an auto DOHC. If the engine went out in my VR4 I wouldn't hesitate provided I could put the turbo's back on but this car would just be a driving car or a turn and sell car. I really hate the auto tranny's in the DOHC it seems to suck a lot of power out of the car.

Certainly not having to do the heads will save you green stuff.

We'll, here is the update, I was hesitant to buy it as it was an automatic and on my 92 SL I've been very disappointed with the performance. I was going to buy it and sell it. However, my girl-friends son bought it and is going out to pick it up right now (he's 19) so he will be putting an engine in and driving it for some time to come. I imagine he will probably start going to gatherings. So everything is still on, it still will need an engine and it looks like we may have found ourselves another enthusiast. I will be hooking him up with our forums and help put him in touch with someone who can put an engine in. So keep your eyes peeled and if your still interested I may tow it down to a gathering in WI and drop it off if you are willing. Thanks for everything.
