We've been plauged the last 3 days straight with rain and it's still continuing to come down. The rivers have flooded to 17 feet. When the shop got flooded last year April, it was at 37 feet. At 33 feet, it's at our door. Right now, the lehigh river is at the top of its banks and starting to pour into the street comming to the shop.
The real danger is if the Delaware floods to the level of the lehigh river as then it will pool up here as the flow of the water will be forced backwards. I do have one escape route should the steet get submerged. We'll use this route to get the cars out too if need be.
For now, we're turning wrenches and sent the construction guys home (who are building the dyno). We're ready for it this time should things get really bad.

Holy cow Noah -- I too am sick of the rain but methinks I'd better stop complaining.
Best of luck and we all hope it stops raining.

hummm, makes we wonder... how fast of a boat can you make with a bunch of 6G72 motors and some turbos? The movie "One Crazy Summer" comes to mind. Be safe man.

Greg.
If the weather channel, and every sane person there tells you to get out, and you stay behind, then after the storm stops you stand on the top of the roof and wave white flags to be rescued by helicopters, then complain about the donated food, drink, shelter, and compare the rescue to the slaves being taken out of africa, I'm going to shoot you myself.
Be safe. They are just cars.

Hans and I are leaving. They're calling for at least 26ft above max. This puts the water at our neighbors. We're helping him move some of his things into our garage and then I'm out. Part of the street is underwater, but I still have the escape route.
More later.

They're calling for even more heavy rains starting around 6:00... Before last year, the water hasn't gotten high enough to get to our garage since 1955, so to have it this high 2 years in a row is really strange. We have 8 cars which are immoble (2 were in the flood last year which I've almost got back together, one is the black 98 VR4) and 10 vehichles which are in for repairs/been fixed but can move under their own power (1 has rod knock).

Well, the Delaware river is almost at the same level as the Lehigh (normally, there's a 25ft drop). The rain has paused for now, but more will come. There is a website which posts the water levels of all the rivers in the area at certain locations. We're watching the upstream Lehigh river ones right now. If they get to 30ft, we're going to head back and move the cars to higher grounds. With the new showroom complete, most of the car parts are now stored above that, so no worries there. Just got to move the computers and tools. What pees me off is I'm ALMOST done with restoring this car (just waiting on a few parts). http://www.3si.org/forum/attachment.php ... ntid=49311I'm at home right now watching the river. Decided not to take the gravel road exit and took the normal road by the river. I had to drive on the wrong side of the street to stay out of water. My place is atop a mountain. To get to work, all I need is a parachute, and I can literally parasail to the roof of GZP. The water needs to rise 150ft before getting this high.

That sucks. Is the dyno pit finished or is it still dirt?

The dyno pit was just finished... The flood level is now 28ft and holding. Looks like I'm going to be out of a job for a while. Hans called me at 8:00 saying they just upped their predictions to 35ft peek which will occur tomorrow night. This means, the water will be at about the same level it was last year. We decided to not wait any more (lehigh road was completely flooded at this point) and take as many cars as we could out the escape route to high grounds. I frantically worked to finish one car to get it in driveable condition and the rod knock car surprizingly made the 4 mile trip (up hill) thru downtown (turned a lot of heads too). One car ran out of gas as it pulled into the parking spot and another had 2nd gear go out at the begining of the trip. (hey, they're all at the shop for a reason) There was one car unfortunately that out of no-where decided it didn't want to run... Going to deal with that in a little bit. Right now, we're scrambling to get all the non-moble cars as high off the ground as we can and pick up the floor. At this rate, I estimate in the next 12 hours, our escape route will be flooded. I can honestly say now that I wish I never would have moved here.

Time to take up a collection and get you home? I'm playing the lotto today... Greg's Speed Shop -- where DJ Auggie is not just a department, but our passion -- nice ring to it. Keep us posted and call me if you have to. Best of luck, SJ
