I know vetting did well in his automatic ES awhile back, I was thinking about maybe getting into that with my ATX in spring.
My car is stock, suggestions on a good path to go for maximum potential? Suspension/tires/perf would be greatly appreciated.

First of all...dont autocross a TT that isnt stock. You will get arse raped for index times. Just my basic upgrades, I had a way higher or an index time than a WRX. Good thing NA's are in a different class completely for index times. They take your index time and multiply it by the actual time you run. For instance....I ran the same times as WRX because I'm a crazy arse driver. Some slolems, I used to get the ass end to break loose 6 times in a row back and forth. Granted its not the best way to go about autocrossing but I love spinning out the TT Anyways, since my index time was higher, my adjusted time ended up being around 6 seconds higher than a WRX. 6 seconds is usualy the difference between the top of your catagory and the bottom half. So the trick is, is to either run just stock, or do a ton of research on what to do to you car and not put in in a really high index time. Also, you're going to really suck your first few runs. You have to walk the track as many times as possible. The shit gets complicated, especialy when you're going 50mph in a parking lot and dont want to run into random poles or people. I would say keep the bad boy stock, then learn how to beat the piss out of it, then research what to do without screwing yourself with a higher index time because of the mods. I just wish I had a car that was better built for autocrossing because I enjoy it more than drag racing. The one problem is, at least here in milwaukee, is that autocrossing is becoming a little too popular. They let too many cars into the events and you end up working the track and being there for 8 hours just to get 6 runs in.

how much modding and what is it you can do to remain "stock" to the judges. i know you can have certain tires and they deem it ok to remain stock, but an air filter throws you into a diff class.

Open air filter is the worst mod you can to for auto cross. Throws you into a way higher index time and the air filter really doesnt gain you that performance. Time to rock out with the stock airbox.

Hmm, well can I get by with some stickier tires or even springs, or what about a brake upgrade?
I know I can do tires, but I really am not sure of if thats it or not.

Hello, guys! I am a member of the Madison Sports Car Club and I autocrossed my car most of last year. Go to WWW.MADISONAUTOCROSS.COM for some good info. In total last year I ran 4 times twice at a 1/4 Mile oval in Columbus, WI. I came in first place once there. The other time a 01 BMW M3 beat me. The other two times I raced at Blackhawk Farms Raceway in Rockton, IL.That was a 2 mile road coarse. (no cones or anything) $100 to enter! It was some of the most fun I've ever had. If you have a twin turbo like I do, it will be tough. You will get put into classes with new Cobra Mustangs and M3's, M5's, Corvettes old and new. S2000's, Porsches, and other formidible competitors. When I raced I raced I A-Stock class. A being the highest of the production line cars. (i.e. TT STEALTH -A, NA-STEALTH-B, FORD FESTIVA-F CLASS) If your car is plane bones this is where you will be. If you put on a open air intake you get 1 point assessed against your car , if you then ad a exhaust you get 2 points assessed for that. Anymore than 3 points against your car and you get moves out of stock and into race class or modified. ( With a TT you will then need a full roll cage) At that point you have heavily modified Fox body mustangs and vettes that your tangleing with. Though that's mainly at the bigger events. Don't get me wrong, just by doing the little autocrossing that I have it has made me a significantly better driver. I'm much more confident driving my car knowing that if my car goes into a skid a certain way I know how to pull it out, because I've done it in real life and a high speeds. In my opinion it is great training as well as fun. Yes, it is getting quite popular and you do get a lot of people there with CRX'S , escorts and lower cars like that. Therefore you usually do have to work the track more. (kinda sucks) At Blackhawk you don't work you just drive. I would recommend doing a smaller event first . The first time I raced the small track when I got out of the TT my hands were shaking and I had a smile ear to ear. The first time I race at Blackhawk I had sit on the ground when I got out of the car it was such a rush. You will chew up tires fast, It can be expensive, It's also a straight adrenilin rush!

Brett, You should get into autocrossing man. Then you can compete at the National Gathering. BTW - whats the latest on the TT purchase? Any decision made?
