I see Target (pronouced Targ-jay) has one for $80. Anyone ever installed one of these? Are they hard to install? Most places I've talked too wants two bills for these, something about the age of the car (1989).
The beater sits outside, so this would make a huge difference in the winter mornings.
Please advise.
Best,
SJ

I have installed a few of them. They work but didn't like the quality.

that guy that was at the meet put remote start and keyless into his integra. Took a couple of hours, but worked great. I think he picked it up from best buy for 60 bucks.

I didn't thing the range was that good. There might have been other reasons I didn't like them but don't remember. The last one I did was like 5 yrs ago.

You can't leave the car parked in gear (manual). If you do and try to use the remote, the car will lunge forward into another car or maybe your garage door. They make it easier for a theif to steel your car.

I just bought a Bulldog remote starter for my dad for xmas for his Suburban. Not sure of the quality yet.
How do they make it easier for a thief to steal the car? The remote starter in my van has auto disable if the brake pedal is pushed without the key in place.

my father has a remote start for his truck that plugs into the wiring harness. no cutting. that one works awesome. but everytime the battery goes dead you need to reprogram the WHOLE system again.
my mother has one on her jeep that is spliced into the engine wiring. we now have all sorts of electrical problems with it... for what that's worth.

The Bulldog system I just bought from JCWhitney had an option for the wiring harness for like $11-16. It says it saves 70% on installation time. I am all about that!!

I have installed many remote starters. Many of them were low cost ($40-70). The Bulldog remote starters are very good quality for the low cost models, and I would recommend them. They use to sell them at Walmart for around $40-50. They are pretty easy without the wiring harness, a couple of hours, but the wiring harness will definitely make it easier. Make sure you download the newest instructions from their website!! Some of their printed instructions manuals packaged with the units had an error in the wiring diagram.
Usually, no reprogramming is necessary if you disconnect the battery. The remote starters usually "relearn the remote" the first time you use it.
The major thing I have noticed between the cheaper remote starters and the more expensive ones (for example DEI: Viper, Python, Clifford, etc) is the range of the cheaper ones is less than the more expensive ones. The more expensive ones are usually packaged with keyless entry, trunk pop, and some sort of an alarm (with or without shock sensor and glass sensors).
