There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of chatter going on in here during the Winter.
So, hm, how is everyone doing? How are the wife and kids?

Well, I can't speak for everyone, but for me, I hide in the winter. Nothing good comes from winter. I keep telling myself, just 6 more weeks, just 6 more weeks.....

winter sucks! like really bad! lol.
the other day was in the high 20's, not a lot of wind either(in sheboygan) took my car to wash and it was so shiny! lol. got all the dust off and everything! drove it to the lake, got out and BOOM! it was worse then it was before I took it out of storage!!! either way, I snapped some pictures of it.
Oh, and yeah, I got my rebuilt done. NO MORE KNOCKING!!! Tranny was hard as hell though. Probably due to the royal purple. thinking of just running engine oil for my tranny. not sure how successful that'll be. But probably better then rp. Seems like winter is fading as days go by, but we can never be too sure. Hopefully it is!

Even the cheap pennzoil stuff from autozone/advance is better than engine oil.

hm... if you say so. I've read a few threads on 3si saying that it wasn't that bad. that's why I wanted to give it a shot. lol. I guess I'll just get some Pennzoil then. What would you recommend jeettao? I'm currently running RP and I think it's a bit too thick or something. My shifting is really rough on cold start. Takes a good hour of driving for it to settle in, then it shifts a bit better. A little longer and it's like butter. But I'm getting sick of the long as wait for the buttery shift. lol.

Yes, there's probably a significant difference in viscosity, which will be definitely be more apparent in the winter at lower temperatures. Regular motor oil doesn't have high pressure/shockproofing additives. It's also not designed for using for several thousand miles per fill, unlike gear oil. That said, for short periods of time, you might be okay with motor oil. Just make sure that when it gets warmer, swap it back for syncromesh. The longevity of your transmission is more important than a couple of months of shifting butter, especially with how rare parts are getting

+1 for synchromesh. $10/qt but worth it.

also, how is the shifting with them? I don't really care much about the buttery shifting. But right now. Using RP and my shifting is real rough and real hard. That's why I want to change it.

I go to the GM dealer and get it from them part number 12345349. The pennzoil is supposed to be the same stuff... http://www.pennzoil.com/products/gear_o ... fluid.html75w90 is way thicker than the synchromesh. What weight RP are you using?

i'm using 75w90. But my shifting is real rough and hard. I actually have to put some work into it just to shift.
