Just did a look at the members list and just about everyone who signed up lately has a website link to either a blogger forum or to buy something. I thought the name John Smith was a little fishy so I checked it out. Then I started to check all the newer members and was surprised how many A-Holes (DJ Auggie holes?) there were there. It will take an administrator a bit of time to weed all of them out.

Been meaning to go clean that up for a while. Deleted almost 100 bogus user accounts this afternoon.

yeah, I deleted about 100 of them a month ago as well. Seems like we have about 5 a day.

we have the same problem with the michiana.org site as well as our poker-related site.
Very easy to fix, log onto the Admin of the website and get to the SQL database and delete all users that have not verified their email addies (this assumes you require verification.

I forget, what's the forum version (prob should pm it rather than post it)? You might want to upgrade it to the latest and greatest. You can always set up a CRON job as well to weed out the db of un-authenticated registrants every week (or day).

Wow, we are almost at 500 members.....currently 497. It will be interesting so see how many of the new people are actually not spammers.

I deleted about 40 of them at lunhc one day last week. More deletions to come soon. Just been busy as of late.
If anybody could give me a little further direction on how to delete users that have not activated their account, please let me know. Deleting one at a time suks.

Wow, now were up to 570 members. Boy those spammers are hitting our site pretty fast now. I think we were down to like 430 a little more than a week ago. I stinks that you have to individually remove them one at a time. Too much higher and there will be more spammers than actual users.
