I don't play Chevy, but if it was me, I'd get a second opinion before I opened my wallet for this. Low on oil = head gaskets?
Was car running with less power? Was it smoking? Coolant and oil mixing? Losing any coolant? Heat still work? Overheating?
I'm not convinced low oil = head gasket. And no, I don't play with these, but an engine is an engine...

I'm not convinced low oil = head gasket. And no, I don't play with these, but an engine is an engine... It's pissing oil. Heat works, not well, don't recall coolant in oil. No overheating. I trust these guys with all the Chevy's in my life. They have been very fair and honest for many years. The only other for a second opinion I would know would be Boucher. I was told the back one leaking, front one seeping. The car has been acting odd to me, surging power at times. Other than that, it has had it's issues adapting from CA. SJ

I should have should have just tacked this on the the FAIL thread... So on my way home Friday, the ABS FAIL light and the TRACTION CONTROL FAIL light come on with the message, Service Traction Control. Can't wait to see what that will add to the total... I just came in after three hours outside running tubing off me and my neighbors downspouts as their basement got water in it yesterday -- they couldn't go do their Christmas with relatives. We were blessed with no water, but after two floods and $4K damage, I'm still afraid to put my guitars and amps back in the basement. I think they'll be some serious money going into grading and pitching this summer. E-ha, more money I can't use to have fun. FWIW, we never had water in the basement EVER before the hundred year rains. I had a six piece band and probably $100,000 worth of equipment down there for years because it was always so dry -- the sump never ran. Nice easy melt would be nice... When is New Year's Eve? I need more Vodka... SJ

Happy new year to everyone. Hoping a better year to all.
To keep things in perpective, we've all had problems in the previous year. Keep in mind what we have.
I went to a funeral Tuesday for the family of the lead man in our maintenance department that works for me. We have been good friends for over 15 years and I know his family well. On Christmas eve morning he lost his 30 year old daughter in law and his seven month old grandson in and auto accident in Waukesha. His wife called me this morning to let me know he hasn't spoken to anyone but her since Christmas morning and has no idea when he will come back to work. Saddest funeral I ever attended. His family will never again have a real Christmas.
I think of all the things I thought were depressing to me in 2008 and now think I'm pretty damn fortunate.
Not trying to down play anyone's issues, just trying to get everyone to look forward to the good things while we still have them.
Have a great year and try to concentrate on the good things in our lives.
SS

SS: Great post SS -- please pass along our collective condolences to that poor family. What a tragedy. My little corner of the asylum spent the night back at my second home, WMH. MIL back in, dropped 10-pounds in 2-weeks. I just think she's simply not eating, but I only play a Doctor on TV. So, more fun and games today. Staying positive for 20009... SJ

Just back from the hospital, MRI of her heart has revealed a "shadow," so they go in tomorrow up through her stomach for a looksy. Weird thing is, of course, is that she has the same Cardiologist as me, Dr. Richard Leech. He heads up the board, and oddly enough, his kid has been over a number of times to the house and dates one of my daughter's friends... small world. So, it's odd talking with him about my MIL instead of me. I feel like a Doctor in training. The procedure, he tells me, is not a big deal. The results -- he danced around that one, so we'll see. So, I'll keep you posted. I know I've been at WMH too much when the nurses walk up to you to say hello and see how your doing... SJ
