Ok, time to rant...
I have been working on restoring the '93 VR-4 and during my checking on the electrical system I have come across a strange issue.
If I hook up a battery to the car, and turn the car to ON, and turn on the lights everything seems to work (digital climate control, blinkers, tail lights, headlights, dash lights) except the interior lights (no dome light or door lights) but I do have dash lights and center gauge lights. Checked the room fuse, it was good, but I replaced it anyway. No change. I checked for voltage at the door and dome lights and I am getting none. I checked all of the fuses in the junction box on the drivers side, all good. The power locks work, the power windows work, but no interior lights.
After a few hours of taking things apart, reading the electrical manual, and testing I have found the problem.
Looks like the previous owner of the car cut a wire in the IOD circuit in the main harness, in the drivers side fender area. This is the 7th cut wire I have found in the wire harness.
WTF? Why do asshats own and work on these cars?
Guys and gals... PLEASE... don't be an asshat!! If you need to tap into something then TAP into the wire, don't just start cutting shit. If you need to install a piggy back, BUY THE DAMN BOOMSLANG HARNESS!

LOL
I feel you brother, while not the same issue, but i have run across many stupid workarounds for many things on my car too....the previous owner was just a ass...
Makes life real hard when people do things their way, which most times is not the right way...

I've never used a boomslang harness to install a piggyback.
I've always soldered the wires. With heat shrink.
Sometimes, you get to a point where you know your car will never be stock again, and cutting wires just doesn't seem to bother you... but I still pretty much try to make it so my electrical system doesn't look like a rat's nest... and works...

Did you check door switches to make sure they still function? A lot of times that screw corrodes and thus it doesn't ground the circuit anymore so the interior lights don't function.

After you become the 3s electrical genius, I will bring you my car. It needs help.

You mean the little screw behind the black booty on the back-inside of the door? As far as I know that only turns on the red light on the inside of the door so that you don't get your door slammed off by cars going by you if you park on the side of the road with the doors open in the night. I think he's talking about the dome light and everything... My first guess would be the dome light switch... But I'd start with looking for power to that switch... And didn't he find the problem? I thought it was a cut wire?

Yes, I found the problem, and fixed the problem. The main wire harness had two wires for the IOD circuit cut in the drivers side fender. For those of you playing at home, IOD stands for, Ignition Off Draw, this is the circuit that powers things in the car without the key being in the ACC or ON position. I have patched those wires back together and 90% of my problems are fixed. I still have no idea why you would cut those wires, or why you would do it way up in the fender. The horn and hazards still don't work, need to dig into those more.

Have any of the previous owners been divorced?
Maybe it was sabotage or something?
b*tches can be petty and cruel.

b*tches can be petty and cruel. That's exactly what I was getting at when I asked if it had been wrecked.

I wonder if there use to be a car alarm installed. I'm guessing that wire is tied into the little boot thing on the door. So if a door is opened and the dome light is going on, then the alarm could activate.
I warned you about that car after you got it. Its a real piece of work.
later, Curt
