I've got a 92 vr4 and it doesnt run. I replaced the coil pack, checked the ecu, and every sensor I can think of on the engine with known good ones.
What happened is I thought it could be the ptu, so I put a new one in and it started in ran but after about 30 seconds it died again and the ptu was burning hot. I switched the coil pack and the little resistor on it thinking maybe there was a short, so then I threw another ptu in after the coilpack and same thing, it burnt out another ptu. So I'm at a loss, the only thing I can think of is maybe there is a short in the wiring. Any ideas?
thanks in advance.

Is there a crack in one of your coils causing a spark to arc onto it?

I dont think so because I replaced the whole coil pack with a good one from my other motor, that runs good

I know you said you checked the ecu but I think it's a smart idea to borrow another ecu from someone and try it in your car. The alternative is to send the ecu out to have it checked and repaired.

If his ECU is the problem (and you swap it into a different car), it will burn something up in the donor car. If his ECU is not the problem(and you swap an ECU into his car), the same symptoms will show up in his car again. I'd swap the ECU like Greg suggested.

haha yeah I dont think my buddies would appreciate me burning up their ptu's too if it was the ecu. I've got a 2nd gen ecu but that wont work for testing so I'll have to borrow my buddies 1st gen na ecu. Thanks for all your suggestions and I'll keep ya posted.
