So at the UMG I messed up something on my car, and the brake light wouldn't go out.

Now before all you mouthbreathers start jumping up and down yelling "FLUID! CHECK THE FLUID LEVEL!"

It's not the fluid level. It's the parking brake.

And it was bugging the crap out of me, but not enough to just go and fix until my charming bride wanted help with the laundry last night... Then I suddenly felt the need to work on the car.

So I popped the center console off (the part with the cup holders in it.) and first just tightened up the brake tension a little.

that didn't fix it, but I no longer have to yank the parking brake up to a vertical position before the brake grabs, so that's good, right?

Next I pulled the kick panels off, and there I found the problem.

From my times yanking the P-brake all the way up because I left the damn thing out of adjustment so long, the little tab that normally contacts the switch had gone all the way back to a bolt which comes through the floor, and gotten stuck on it, and when I brought the brake back down, it bent the fudge out of that little tab so it no longer contacted the switch.

Well, out comes three pound deadblow mallet, and a long screwdriver. That little tab is "sorta" straight again, and volia! No more brake light.

Now the only other light I have still on my dash is that damned SRS light.

Fail.

Anywho. Thought I'd share. I love easy fixes.

Now onto the "no reverse light" problem.

Then I think I'll fix the neon underbody lights. Because as Rice as having underbody lights is, I think it's more Rice to have three out of four underbody lights that don't work...

I'm trying to remember if there's a way to get the srs code via grounding a pin in the diagnostic port.... Gotta look in the manual. Either way autozone has a tool that can check it out.

Reverse lights are burnt out bulbs or you didn't reconnect or messed up the one and only harness plug on the tranny.

Yeah, about that... the harness plug on the tranny... that's the one right by the clutch line, right?

OH! I got the neon lights fixed, except for the front one, which is snapped in half.

woot.

EDIT: Nevermind. The plug is on the front of the transmission. approximately three inches away from my turbo... You'd think I'd have paid more attention to that while I was doing all that... stuff.

Anywho. plug is connected.

Fuse is not blown.

Bulbs? I can't see them. Must dig further. Prolly to drunk to do that tonight... but... maybe... depends if wife needs laundry done.

DOUBLE EDIT: Both Bulbs are good. I am guessing this means my reverse switch is bad in the tranny. I will attempt to remove and clean it.

Also. I have been looking for "redline" or "redline quest" neon underbody lights, and I cannot seem to find their home page/website. I need a front neon light. I was hoping to get one straight from them instead of using ebay mouthbreathers...

perhaps that is not an option?

just in case anyone is wondering, the OEM switch on the trans needs a 24 mm deep well socket to remove.

The replacement switch from Autozone is a 22 mm... go figure.

Also, they did not have one for a stealth... but they did for a 3000gt VR4.

also go figure.

and now my reverse lights work, so misson accomplished I believe.

I was doing srs resets at the UMG where were you.... Unless you have a 96, me doesnt remember.
