We recently had a 3/S gathering/cruise out here in PA. About 16 cars showed up for the weekend so it was a good time. Most everyone left late saturday night, but a few of us stayed sunday for another cruise. We piled everyone into the vr4s and brought the camera.

My roommate Josh bought Rob Becks old 94 pearl white vr4. The car was completely stock except the JDM gearing. He's been having me build the car for him since.

In this vid, you're riding in a 94 Stealth TT with 3sx turbos, AEM, and a whole slue of other stuff. The car supposedly ran a 12.4 in the 1/4 mile.

The white car is Josh's. All I have done to it is an exhaust, boost controler set to 13ish psi, RPS clutch & flywheel, and E-manage blue tuned manually using a wideband and playing with some timing. The car still has the stock fuel system with the stock pump (NOT even rewired).

The race was quite a shocker.

Up next for josh's car is a denso fuel pump, EVO injectors, and more boost (knock permitting). Over the winter, I'll be swapping in 19Ts.

Yeah, AEM is shit. I don't know why anyone would want to run one in place of the stock ECU.

what 3sx turbos where in the car? At some point in time the exhaust side is just to restrictive and you don't see bigger gains by going bigger on the compressor side. Especially in the low gears.

Hell I don't think I can even make 15 lbs of boost in 1st gear from a "rolling stop." I'd really have to check the logs.

On the rural cruise Matt's white VR4 kept up with mine just fine as we weren't using any of the mid to higher gears.

On the UMG there was a kid with a straight pipe'd 99 vr4 who was talking about how he would keep up with my car until about half way through second gear, and until then we were pretty much right there, side by side.

I mean there are ways to get around that... you could go anti lag, or no lift shifting, but why?

I really am not certain I would want to do the shorter gearing... I mean it's fun for more torque low down, but third gear in my car is a hell of alot more fun then second. It is just a longer gear and has more load. Maybe it's not that much different though, the cars in the vid looked like they were shifting somewhat at similar times...

Also, who tuned the AEM car... as I have recently found out that can make a substantial difference...

That was kinda my point. AEM doesn't do shit if you don't know how to use it. Some WRX shop out here dyno tuned the yellow car way too conservatively. Last weekend, he came down and I was able to "alter" his powerband too. There might be a rematch next weekend.

Yellow car has stock 6-speed gearing btw.

When I build my future DR800 car, it will be a 5-speed. It's all about when you make the power, and how long you can hold it, not necessarily how much of it you can make overall.
