I need some help, what all would i need for a conversion from a regular GT/SL into a VR-4. But instead of having it all wheel drive, just have it rear wheel.
( All Parts/Internals ) That would need to be replaced and put in.
Thank you!
:It's going to be a project:

What I would do is hop over to 3si.org and then do research on the "VR440". It's the most successful, as far as I know, RWD conversion.

Tired, people who call me at work are idiots.
Oh and converting to RWD would be a royal PITA. Not sure if OP knows what he's getting into with that.
You figure by the time you spend all that money on fabricating a FWD car into a RWD car, you could probably buy a new car with a warranty that's already RWD. My $.02.

The buyinh a camaro and what not, i hate those cars, cheap hp, more impressive having a 3.0L, V6 have 400hp than a camaro.
This is a project, But what all would i need to replace in the standard GT to convert to a vr4.
Or option 2, If it's possible, can you take a Toyota Supra engine and swap it in.

The rear subframe on a non-turbo is different then on a turbo car. You will have to find a turbo donor car of the same generation, cut the rear subframe out of it, and weld it into the non-turbo. Then you will have to convert a turbo transmission to be rear wheel drive, then swap it with the non-turbo tranny (this my also require that you swap front halfshafts depending on the year on your donor car) As far as engine swaps go, the turbo engine will drop right into a non-turbo car, just need to swap the wire harness and ECU along with it.

Quote: (this my also require that you swap front halfshafts depending on the year on your donor car) If you want it to be RWD then you will need to have your transmission axle holes welded closed. A more cost effective method may be to get a montero trans, rotate the engine 90 deg, and have a driveshaft made for it. Of course you'll still have to do the work of putting a VR4 rear end under it. Sure, you could put a supra engine in there. You can put in about any engine you want if you have enough time and money. I don't think it would be an easy project... Good luck!

He drives a miata?!?! lol, yes, I am drunk again. 2 nights in a row if you're counting. Some call it a problem, I call it progress. This is a major project that will take a serious investment of time and money....do adequate research before pulling the trigger on this one...

Well, are you gonna use an awd transmission or are you gonna turn the motor 90 degrees and have a custom bellhousing made up for a RWD tranny off another car? If you're gonna use and AWD tranny, you need an AWD subframe, driveshaft, and tranny with a welded center diff and something to plug the holes for the front half-shafts. You also need the mounting studs for the driveshaft off an AWD car (your FWD chassy has the holes) and you will need the mounts for the subframe off the AWD chassy (yours does not have these) which are not as easy as you'd thing to swap. Lots of grinding spot welds, sawing, and welding is needed for this. Some one did a swap by making adaptor plates for the subframe mounts which if you have the CNC equipment would be a lot easier than the way we did it. If you're going the route of making some other tranny bolt up to the engine and turning it 90 degrees, I can't help you there as I've never taken on that task. One other person has though on 3si and his board name was posted earlier in the thread.
