I'm interested in a new stainless steel exhaust, including the downpipe and cat-back but excluding the cat itself. I see there are quite a few out there to choose from. What are good ones for reasonable, IE I don't need to spend 3 grand on an exhaust, I was thinking low thousand unless it made a significant difference to spend a little more than that.

SST exhaust? Weren't you just selling the car and just about everything else to make ends meet and pay off the mama!!!!
But then I remember seeing a post that said they bought your Avalanche so now you must be swimming in $$$.
So are you now keeping the other car?
$$$ is easy come easy go.....

Bret:
There are many options, and very many expensive options. I am basically redoing my expensive one and would highly recommend you investigate doing the same -- custom with some kick butt cans.
But that's just MHO...

No, I'm certainly not swimming in the money. I just decided that if I have to make all those sacrifices that I'm going to use some of the money to do something I feel good about and do some work on the vr4 especially since that will be my only driving vehicle. I'm going to redo the interior and probably put an exhaust on it mostly out of necessity, my exhaust is practically rotted through. I'm still selling the white 92. Bunk wrote: SST exhaust? So you bought an expensive option and are now taking it apart and having a shop custom bend everything is that it? I always wanted true-duals on mine right from the front but I doubt there is enough room under there for that. I don't know any shops in town I'd trust to do any custom exhaust work for me. A grand for the entire thing shipped is the best price I've seen yet. Does anyone else have this exhaust or have experience with these guys? Is this a lot better performance than my stock? And since I plan on keeping my car stock would I need much more? What is the stock exhaust, 2"? Thanks, Bret curt_gendron wrote: I like the IPS Motorsports exhaust. Kind of -- I bought this exhaust used from a guy in Chicago. It was like the second mod I made. I was told it was stainless. I'm merely fixing the section that had the issue. My point was I've heard from many who have got a good system for much cheaper than an out of the box kit. I do know of a couple people that have run duals all they way back, so there is room. I do not recall if teh cars were lowered or not. I think Kaze made a kit many years ago as well. IPS makes good stuff as Curt pointed out. Many praises from many people on this shop. SJ

See: http://www.ipsmotorsports.net/index.php ... _1008_2979later, Curt If you are keeping your stock turbos on the car, any aftermarket exhaust is not gonna give you much gain in horsepower. Its more about sound and slightly better turbo spool up. The better gain is to get rid of the cats. If you do that with your new exhaust then there is some benefit. But its mostly spool up time. And exhaust is one of your worst bangs for your buck when it comes to horsepower on our cars. That said, a good rumbling exhaust is awesome! later, Curt

We'll mine would be a lot out of necessity at this point but thought I would do it right. I've had the exhaust repaired like three times now and they kind of hacked it together, it looks terrible and looks as though it is going to fall apart in several places.

Because you have a 1st gen, you can get away with a cheap ebay SS downpipe. They fit fine on 1st gens, and are made very well. After that you can either find a cat back exhaust or just have one welded up. There are only two turns for them to make. Here is a Tanabe... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/TANABE-S ... enameZWD1VI was lucky and bought a used Borla for about $200 because the guy hacked up the front of it to put different mufflers on it. Here are pics of my set up. It sounds great. The cat is strap clamped on with SS clamps so I can change that out with a straight pipe. You wouldn't need to do that because you don't have emissions there. grrrr Click to enlarge...

You mean with the wood blocks? The car was already on jackstands, I was just taking pressure off the motor mounts on that side because I was changing them.

SJ wrote: Be careful will ya? Maybe jack in a different place? SJ I know using an engine hoist is the prefered way to take the pressure off the mounts, but that wasn't possible. Where else could have I jacked to take the pressure off that side of mounts? Sorry for the thread hyjack Bret.
