Cmon guys help me out.... or give me some ideas.... I failed emissions twice now with the rear precat gutted and Jesse's stock dp on. The car was warmed up before I went, I fixed the EGR piping and I was running an open atm. BOV both times I went. Jesse helped me fix a boost leak and that dropped my HC emissions by a full point but I'm still failing. 1st time at emissions I got a 3.4 on HC and 2nd time I got a 2.4. The limit for HC is .8. What the hell is causing me to run so pig rich?? All I can think of is a leaky injector. Let me hear your ideas

What are your plugs gapped at? You still have a main cat, right? Also which testing station are you going to? Did they put you on rollers or just flash the wand on your tailpipe?

Get your pocketlogger hooked back up rob. Check your O2s at idle and see if they are bouncing back and forth like they should, or whether they are pegged.
I dont think its a bad injector.. just my thoughts. Possible problem with a bad plug? Are you seeing gas coming out of your exhaust at idle? If you're running THAT rich according to the test station, are you smelling it too?

I can't find my palm pilot now I don't know if someone took it at the party or what but it's missing. O2s would cycle when I had it hooked up though. plugs are gapped at .040 which should be fine. Front precat and main cat are back on the car thanks to Jesse's dp. I didn't really smell gas after I put his dp back on but before when I had the stillen on there I could smell it...... and remember I always complained about backfiring when I had the stillen on?? I think I'm running richer than most people. How can you check to see if 1 cylinder is running rich?

Here's what I would do. Hook up with someone who has a pocketlogger, either me or Vetting, and check your low fuel trims. They SHOULD be around 100% give or take 15 or so. Anything under 100 means you're running rich. But logging it would be a way to tell for sure.
You could also try resetting your ECU. Maybe it's just out of whack. when you reset it, it has to relearn and adjust your fuel trims accordingly, maybe that would help too.
One other thing to consider is checking your rear intake cam and see if it slipped a tooth, so it retards your timing. having the rear bank intake retarded could cause the rich condition (because of improper cylinder charge).

Jesse how do I check the timing?.... Jeff put my belt on for me and I would assume he checked it after he put it on but who knows

You would need a timing light. http://www.stealth316.com has good info about it. However, if Jeff (440_4x4) put on your belt for the 120k service, then I believe he would have checked it and done it correctly, he seems to do excellent work. I didn't realize you had that done recently. You dont know anyone with a non-gutted rear precat do you? Who knows, could be part of the problem. I think you're going to have to post for some help on 3SI. I'm kinda stumped if what I've offered up doesn't help fix the problem..... Sorry man!

yeah I have an ungutted rear that I'm going to throw in but It'll be gutted by the time I install it... I need a new o2 before I do that though and I don't wanna gut it on the car later... Shouldn't matter if one is gutted cause people pass like taht all the time. I forgot to mention this but a while back me and Vetting were having this problem where the car would barely idle if you ran it for a while then shut it off and waited 1/2 hour or so and turned it back on..... I posted a thread on 3SI about that and most people thought that was a leaky injector... that's why I'm bringing that up again now. That would cause you to run rich wouldn't it?

If it's stuck open, yes, you'd likely be passing a lot of unburnt fuel through your exhaust and run extremely rich. I've just never heard of that happening before, but that doesn't mean it CANT happen.
