Wow. I just glanced through the 9 pages of fun on 3si.
What did you guys honestly think?
To be completely honest, the hotel was one of the bigger reasons that I was a no-show. (that and my car not running were 1 and 2)
If I would have gone, I would have sprung for a different hotel out of my own pocket, and just headed back every night when I was "done."
I'm glad that the UMG has a nicer facility. They also let us clown around a fair amount... (I also think the UMG is the "best done" as far as our gatherings)
I guess I wasn't there this past year, though. Were the antics worse than last year?
And even then, do we want to really be associated with that?
I just seem to see alot of supra/viper/corvette meets with track/dyno/shows and they seem to have better organised (sorry, I honestly believe it's true) better publisized get togethers.
I suppose this can be attributed to money (spend 30-70k on the car, then add that again in mods, and you can justify a grand plus on a weekend car thing), as can most things in life, but maybe that is the direction I would like to see this head.
I think that the UMG is hands down the better gathering. I do miss the track/car show thing though.
I for one would pay more to get more out of either the NG (better accomidations, and such) or the UMG. (maybe a race day, or car show or something...?)
How are some of the other gatherings handled? like the east coast gathering? SJ you go to that one now and again.
Or the texas supra meet? Didn't Brett and Bryan go to that one? how was that, what was different, what can we learn, and adapt to our gatherings from them?
I guess I'm just curious how you guys thought it went and if this is what everybody wants in a gathering...?

It was pretty crazy this year maybe even more than last year. I think it is going to be at the same place next year. I hope it calms down though things got way out of hand to many times. I was thinking about going to a different hotel next year but then I wouldn't be able to party as much as I like. The thugfest Sat. night is what made me consider it. In the future everyone will have to calm down and be more responsible or it will get shut down.

Muhahhaha The NG was a great time, as usual. Although I was opposed to going to the same hotel from last year, I think it was much better this year. The prices are resonable, the central area is a very cool thing that not all hotels have, and we can do pretty much whatever we want to. I'm glad its going to be in the same hotel. You are just getting old and weak ver fer with your going to bed before 6 am and not drinking DJ-AUGGIE-SAUCE.

What do you mean I drank Thurs. and Sat. I don't like drinking much the night before I race. How else am I suppose to kill people off the tree.

I like the idea about having a "race day" durring the UMG, but I understand why there isn't one.
The problem is, the nearest track is about an hour drive one way... You end up killing the whole day just for that one event. How many things do we do in one day at the UMG?
The other issue is, not everyone cares to race. The thing I like the most about the UMG vs any other non-w3si gathering (ECG, NG, BRG...) is it's focused on just the owners and the events are enjoyable for everyone. It's much like a vacation which is why I like it so much. Guys can bring their whole familys to the gathering, and they have fun!
A race day would bring a different (and much smaller) crowd. I can live with the bumper, I mean go-kart competition & rural cruise instead of a track day.

The Supra gathering was a bunch of rich money toting dudes who were in bed by midnight, or at the strip club, or street racing. I went there with 3 friends(bryan missed it) and we camped out in the lobby with a case of beer to try to be-friend the owners... they all turned their noses up at us and didn't understand what we were doing. They have money, thus they can act more organized.. but they don't deal with the partying the NG comittee deals with. Adam I tried hard to remember each night to call you, but the fact that we kept forgetting really shows how much booze we were intaking... I hope you forgive us I had fun, always do. I hope they push it back to July, my allergies will subside by then and I won't have ot be in bed so early... but the lack of AC was fricken killing me, I shoulda just slept on bennifers floor... the place was arctic cold. I'll go back next year, as long as the W3SI crew is there.

Many ask me where Amber is at the NG, well for one she doesn't drink and two doesn't get THAT into cars to warrant 3 days of events for it. She loves the UMG as much as me because she still gets to meet the great people we have in our club, yet isn't forced into anything she doesn't wanna do nor has to put up with us standing around broken cars for all hours of the night. I like keeping the UMG and NG separate, they are two totally different events and I think therein lies the secret to the UMG's grand success.

I always miss friday during the day because I work... is there anything super special that happens during the day? Maybe it could be done then. If you want to show up early for something, you could. if not, well, it'll still be the same ol' gathering. I also understand that people will be hesitant to go bawls out for fear of breaking there car, but in all honesty I'd rather KO my car in the dells than in st. joe. Then perhaps the party crowd is what is wanted at the NG, and it's the lesser percentage that want a better hotel and less puking from a 2 story beer bong. Brett. I forgive you this time, but will be seriously disappointed if I don't find a pancake on my driveway after the GB gathering. I am also not trying to re-schedual the UMG, just thinking if it had a track event, or something, I would really have no reason to go to the NG... I think the UMG is just done that much better, but would be nice to see something like a track event for those that would like to participate.

Hey guys,
Thanks for the good words over here and on 3SI. I've wanted to add a drag event to the UMG for years, but we can't realalisticly have a drag event and keep the gathering in Wisconsin Dells.
There has been some good discussion on the 3SI hotel thread. It will be interesting to see if anything happens from it.
later, Curt

I personally would prefer to keep the UMG as it is, and love the fact it's up here in our neck of the nort' woods. Read into that what you may... Last year, Roxann accompanied me to the NG and probably would have again if they had not moved up the event, overlapping week-long camping trips and kid activities. I too hope it is moved back to July

I don't really mind the hotel. We can do pretty much whatever we want and its a place to sleep when I finally decide to turn in after the sun comes up. The only complaints I had this year were: 1. The way the sat night parking lot fiasco was handled. Not just by the hotel, but also by the 3Si community as a whole. 2. The lack of towels and room cleaning; even when I asked to have it cleaned. 3. The leaking A/C unit for the 2nd year in a row soaking my (luckily dirty) clothes. Other than those 3 things, I had no problems at all with the hotel this year.

I'll be at the NG every year even if we sleep in a jail cell. Last year I went without a car, this year, I just broke it so I couldn't drive it. Man up, and drink some beer. You'll forget all about the hotel being crappy. I've stayed in FAR worse conditions than that hotel.

The NG just seems like one giant drinking party which is why the hotel is perfect.
