Thank you.
More....Hi again,
Today, on my way to work, the engine (94 TT with 140K miles) developed a consistent ticking noise. I was low on gas, so I put gas from the usual
place I put gas (I sure hope I didn't get some bad gas). About 2.5
miles later (and almost 10 minutes of driving), I entered the highway,
accelerating at WOT from 30 mph to about 80 mph (redlining 2nd gear),
taking the on-ramp under acceleration, which I usually do 90% of the
times when I get on this ramp

However, as soon as I let off the gas,
I could hear a very light ticking noise from inside the car, almost as
if a plastic fan was hitting something. I pulled over, popped the hood,
and there was definitely a load ticking noise. It seemed to be about
10~20 times per second (its hard to tell) around idle, and it seems to
increase in rate as the RPM increases. The noise seems to be coming
from the top of the engine, almost in the area of where the spark plugs
are. I checked the oil level, and there seems to be plenty of oil,
which is probably around 1000 miles and less than 1 month old. If
something happened internally in the engine (spun a bearing, etc... ),
what other symptoms would there be outside of a ticking noise? The cars
seems to still run strong, I tried WOT accelerations with 15PSI and it
feels strong, but I turned down the boost to 6PSI until I figure out hat
happened. Would it help at all to change the oil, and look for metal
shavings (with a magnet)? Since I also have to change my wires again,
would changing them sooner rather than later help diagnose the problem?
Would removing the spark plugs reveal anything? Also, could the driving
for several thousand miles with the bad NAPA wires that kept coming
loose (and hence only running on 5 cylinders sometimes, or on 5.5
cylinders as one of the cylinders probably wasn't getting the regular
spark it normally got) have cause any sillent damage, and only now it
has manifested itself? Is this something I should look into, and try to
hold NAPA responsible for? As they sold me a wire set that did not fit
100%

One last question, although the car is running strong, but
should I park the car until I can figure out what is wrong?
I know I have lots of questions, but I am trying to learn as much as
possible about what might have happened before I go to a mechanic!
Thanks,
John Raicu
