I am pretty sure this is just lifter tick. It sounds the same as last year now. I started the car after sitting for 3 months in storage and it sounded 10 times louder. I read that this can happen, so I changed the oil added some Slick 50 engine treatment and as soon as I started it, it was better immediatly. I hope it is just lifters as I have '99s ready to go in when I find someone to do it. Here is the clip, it takes a while to load... http://media.putfile.com/Lifter-tick-or-rodknock-VR4Thanks, Neil

Sounds exactly the same as mine did after sitting through the winter. It's just lifter tick. Rod knock has a deeper, clunking type of sound. Come to think of it, I really should upgrade to 99 lifters one of these days.

Yeh, it's just tick. Drive the car around a little bit, and it will go away eventually.

Does that mean one of the lifters is crushed? Mine never goes completely away either. It gets quieter if I use a thicker oil, but never completely goes away. I have 187k miles, though, so I know I probably need to either clean or replace my lifters.
