It seems to me that someone made slim-line replacement subs for our car doors? Anyone know about this? Fry? Bueller?
Please advise.
Thanks,
SJ

it can be done, but are you sure you want subs, or just some nice midrange speakers? How much are you looking to spend?

Prefer subs, then don't need a sep box in trunk. FREE work? Best, SJ

To make subs work decently, you are going to need an amp. So I would suggest some small subs (8 inch) and an amp to be installed behind the seats. It can be made to fit the small "hump" between the back of the seats and the trunk. And even make it removable. Just need a little fiberglass, some MDF, and a little time.

Right.
But I'd prefer to use the door locations if at all possible. Again, I thought there were something like "slimeline" subs that fit in our stock door locations without modifying that area -- maybe from Crutchfield? Maybe they don't make them anymore, who knows.
If I have to put a sub in the back, I guess I will, but I'd really prefer not to.
I've had several others suggest as you have John, even a bazooka. But I really need that space hauling all my crap back and forth to the gatherings and the track.
Now, talk to me about that Plan B -- let's say a single 10" dual-voice coil sub. Speaker? Amp? My buddy in CO says I should by an Eclipse speaker.
Thanks for your input.
Best,
SJ

I guess the big question is, what kind of sound are you looking for?

A long, long time ago, in galaxy far, far away...
I owned an Audi 5000S. I had an Alpine system installed with the single sub and it sounded incredible. I guess I'm looking for something like that. I don't want the overzealous thumping, I just don't have enough of the kick and bass for my taste. I guess I'm looking for more balance and realistic sound. I miss what the Alpine put out.

have you thought about installing a single 10" sub on the right or left side of the trunk? You can make fiberglass boxes fit very nicely in the "pockets" next to the hatch opening.

I do remember some slimline subs. Who made them I don't remember. But I don't think they would fit in the stock door locations without modifing the doors. What you should look for is a nice 6.5" component set and a separate amp to run the system. You might be able to fit a par of 8" subs where the factory 6x9 are.

See, that's just it -- I would prefer the subs down by my feet versus in back where the 6x9's are.
I guess I'll have to settle for one in the trunk.
Thanks for all your help.

Dear SJ,
A guy by the name of Black Sunshine on both 3si and us3s that makes custome inclosers for a fairly decent price that match your paint job.
I believe there is also someone selling an eclipse sub on us3s. not sure what size.
I have an amp that you can have for one miller light. It's supposedly pretty good. It's fairly large. I got it on a deal gone sour and have no intrest in audio stuff, so have never installed it.
Now that I have offered my help I'm offering my opinion. (double bladed sword.)
Subs in a fast car do nothing but slow you down. you should be listening to the sound of your engine.

This is for the trips to the gatherings and the track -- and maybe on my way home on Friday's. Never heard of Black Sunshine, will look later. The beer is yours. Have a contact for the guy on us3s? I'm up to my @#$ today. Thanks, SJ

Sitting on my back porch I have many car audio parts, but the one that I think you are interested in SJ is a pioneer 10" sub. It is less then a year old, and has barely been used. It was part of one my 6 different boxes I made for the 3S. It is yours, for the low, low, low price of a hand shake and a thank you. (unlike some people that change 1 WHOLE can of beer)
