So were you thinking of replacing the factory speakers in the doors with subs? IMO, that wouldn't sound quite right. The sound would probably be better and it would be easier if you mounted them in place of the 6x9's.
There is also a chance that a box could be made to fit under the passenger seat with a single 8" in it. I am quite interested in this as well, and it's on my winter project list to give it a shot.

Subs in the doors aren't that great of an idea because if your tracks and stuff are worn, the glass will raddle. Ask me how I know this.

Oh, the factory amp is under the passenger seat.

on a first gen? Neither of mine have amps, but my 99 did.

mine is under the passenger seat, but is a second gen... or a bastard hybrid. they both work.
