I have a 94 Stealth RT. Sometimes the engine ticks,I can shut it off, restart it, and it will stop, but sometimes not.I use Mobil 1,and have for years. It has 78k on it.What is that noise, and does it hurt anything? How can it be fixed,or shouldn't I worry about it.Oh,thanks for the Chapter business card from whoever put it on my car in Madison. I appreciate any advice anyone can give me.

Welcome to the club! More than likely the problem you are describing is lifter tick. It's really nothing to worry about. If you would like, one of us Madison guys can look at it to verify that it is lifter tick.
Remember the Upper Midwest Gathering in May. It's a good time!

Howdy!
It sounds like lifter tick, and it is notorious in stealths/300gts. It's usually nothing to worry about, unless it is still present at higher RPMs.
If you get on the gas does it go away as rpm increases?
If it really bugs you you can swap out the lash adjusters to the 99 3000gt style. Though some people will say that those tick when the engine is cold, and as it warms up the tick goes away...

Do you own a red one and keep your car parked by Don Miller on the east side? If so, then I was the guy that gave you the card. As before mentioned, you probably have lifter tick. In Lame-mans terms, it's the sound our lifters make when there is air inside them. It's caused by a few things: Low oil pressure Carbon/dirt build up inside the lifter itself dry lifter from sitting a long time There's a number of things you can do to get rid of it. The best way is to pull & clean them or replace them. Lifter tick isn't the end of the world, but it really does make your motor sound like a POS.

Thanks all for the help. Hey G-Ell. Thats me.I just started selling at Don Miller . If anyone has a need for a vehicle,I would be glad to help you get the Don Miller Deal.He is a good guy,and truly cares for his customers,as I do. I worked for him for 10 years and got out of the biz for awhile, but I love cars and trucks and it is an fun way to make a living, sometimes. I have some mechanic pals with the same opinion as you kind folks, but it's nice to hear from an owner of the same car. I look forward to your next meet. My wife loves Stealthy as much as I do. (Stealthy is my plate and her name) Some SOB rubbed me the wrong way in a parking lot,(and split)so I have $800.00 worth of body shop coming up.($500 DED.) Anyway,PEACE, and thanks. Dave D.

I baught my 1st Stealth from that dealership almost 7 years ago now. It was a 95 Red base ATX (auto tranny). They took really care of me and surpisingly took me very seriously considering my age (16 at the time). I'd buy another car there again. This site and the national one ( www.3si.org) can teach you more than you ever wanted to know about your car. The main page has all the dates for up comming events. Don't be shy. Common out. It's updated at least once a month so check back often. There's even a few "unofficial" gatherings that happen every now and again. Many of us Madison guys hang out all the time.

Thanks G-Ell and 440 4x4. I worked at Don Miller Dodge from 1990 to 1998,I bet I had something to do with that Stealth you bought as I was a manager at that time. I think I remember you.We didn't have many 16 year olds actually buy that car. That is how I came to know the Stealth.I have driven many a TT. That car is Brute strong.Wish I had one. My wife wanted an automatic though.I had to go all the way to St. Louis to find the one I have,as it had to be red.I got it in 1996 with 30000 miles on it.I have 78K on it now. It's on it's 3rd tranny, but I bought a Chrysler 7/70,and they were all no charge. This trans seems ok,although when I back it out of the garage and put it in drive it has this little jerk like it's just going into gear, although it is in drive and creeping forward. I put a timing belt and new front brakes on it last year as well as a trans service.$1200.00. I would like to have someone listen to it sometime, although it is intermittant. We would like to join in at the next gathering. Let me know when you Mad-Town guys are meeting again. Thanks again for the warm welcome. Dave D

Sounds like you need a ride in a car with upgraded turbos.
