It is true that (although rare) that a short in the ISC coils will burn up the M5269L drivers on the DSM ECU. They are only rated for 2A 10ms 10% duty cycle pulses max. In fact, I think there's a post about it on the DSM technical service bulletins.
I've never torn apart a 3/S ISC, but there's a good write up about it on stealth316.com. It works just like a DSM ISC. I don't know enough about the specifics of the 3/S ECU board to conclude that a shorted IAC coil can do the same. BUT, I wouldn't be surprised if they shared the same components. Sounds like a good thread topic for 3si.
An easy way to find out is to unplug the IAC, replace the board, and see what happens. What did they "fix" in his ECU? Usually, the damage done to a blown driver is so bad that it burns holes thru the fiberglass on the board and damages near-by parts.

People have commented that I look pale compared to a normal person, but there's still some color in me. Yes, I had my board name changed. I'm going to make a new account on here with that name in the near future too. This will give Joe a chance to get more posts than me.
