Okay, week until UMG and my car decides to go to crap on me.... the situation is that it takes a LONG time to get to normal temperature. and once i'm sitting at normal temperature it takes a long time for the heat to work even though it's on all the way and up all the way? now i didn't hear my fan so what i did was i switched the relay from my A/C to my radiator fan and it seemed to work... now a new one is $39.95... so now my fan works now the problem started on wednsday, I pulled up and parked my car at walmart and i get out and i smell something... then i see some white smoke coming out from underneath my hood... so i open it and much to my dismay i see and hear my antifreeze reservoir boiling! i was like WTF? so i left it and i started it up about hour and a hlaf later and it was still hot but i had to get back home... so it starts out fine but when i accelerate my temperature skyrockets... but then it comes back down to just above normal then it kinda goes from just under the Red to just above normal... but slowly and in increments of like 2-3 tick marks according to the stock temp gauge. So idk if it's something plugged up in my radiator, a thermostat, or if it's this pollen crap that's been floating around... now with me putting that other relay in it seems to run fine when it's at normal driving in town and on the highway, now idk i haven't driven it that much sense i've done it and the engine has been warm the whole time so idk if it's just beuase the fan works now... okay ready for my 2nd problem? When i start up my car cold it's fin revs up too 1500 rpms for warm up mode but then i drive it for a while and i stop and let off the gas and it goes from 1000 to 1500 RPMS just jumps back and forth, and it's not my gauge either becuase i can hear the engine rev up.... so i'm thinking it's has to do with the Throttle Posistion sensor in front of the throttle body... or maybe it's just kind of clogged up and needs some seafoam but i have no clue... and then sometimes b4 it does it and i stop it just sits at 2000 RPMS with my foot completely off the gas? so idk. but after driving for about 15 mins it's fine it idles at the regular speed... So any help would be appreaciated... i dont' know if both problems are related or not? there is no check engine light on, my radiator fluid light is on but it's filled up too the fill line...? i am doing a radiator flush tommorrow... but any help i would greatly appreciate... Thanks,
~Woody

The radiator issue sounds like a clog or bad thermostat. I had a similar problem that ended up being a clogged radiator.
The idle problem could be your IAC motor, but I'm not sure of that one. Anyone else got any ideas on the Idle issue?

I agree with Joe. Betcha the cause of the problem is the thermostat. Start with that as they're cheep/easy to replace. There's a certain way you need to bleed the coolant, but I can walk you thru that. It's not hard.
Don't worry about the idel issue now. IF the car overheated and there's damage to the headgaskets, then you have a bigger issue.
I'd definately start with replacing the thermostat and seeing what happens.

~Woody This is Joe posting from Eric's. The thermostat is located just below the coolant cap on the pass side of the intake manifold. You should see 3 12mm(?) bolts where the upper hose connects to the water neck. Those are the ones to remove. When I get home I'll see if I can post a couple pics for you.

Correct.
3 12mm and 1 10mm. 2 of the 12mm bolts are longer than the 3rd. Just take note where you pulled them out.

Should he put some grease on rubber ring of the new themostat when he installs it? I just watched Jeff replace mine, thought he did. (Maybe that's really basic advice that goes without saying....)

Alright, I replaced the thermostat, i used some RTV blue that i had from when i did my valve cover gaskets last summer... engine's running @ normal temp. I have not had the idle problem occur yet.. i think the computer thought it was still trying to warm up while the TPS new it was warm and brought it down? idk but i haven't seen the idle thing after driving it when it was cold... so hopefully that was it... Thanks everybody! I might not be able to attend too the UMG due to finacial issues ... but i'm not 100% sure on that just waiting for the statement... Thanks again! ~Woody

No RTV I lightly grease the Oring on the waterneck, so it doesn't tear when putting pump back on. No gasket stuff on thermostat housing.
