I've got a friend at work with a NA audi of some sort. all I know is it has 20 valves, where as they usually only have 10 or something.
He gave it to his kid a while back, and his kid had the bright idea to turbo charge it. Apparently some of these things come turbo charged. His kid doesn't know a bus driver from a screw driver, but has a friend with a turbo DSM. thus he wants a blow off valve.
His father, one of the shop guys is really rather handy, but knows nothing about turbos. nothing. He talked to me for five minutes and I told him he needs to put down turbo magazine and step away from the car. he claimed all sorts of crap, like only running a BOV, and no waste gate, or my favorite, he cut a hole in the airbox and hooked up one of those electric turbos to "help out" the real turbo. Then he didn't understand why he couldn't build boost. Once he understood that he cut a hole for the air to go out through his fancy electric turbo he unhooked that. after I coached him for about two weeks that that was his problem. then he tried to tune the car with the MAF off, and the O2 sensor laying on the top of the engine. guess how that went.
So now, after a few trips out to tell him what he had completely f*cked up the car is running. It idles and cruises, and does low boost ok. but you mash on the pedal and it gets to three grand and studders pretty bad. If you pull the plugs they're completely black.
He says that he has some sort of adjustible FMU, but I don't think it's adjustable.
The whole manifold assembly looks alot like IPO's log adaptors for the 15gs, only imagine that IPO was right handed, and only had a left hand welder... and made the log manifold out of some ductile iron pipe he had lying around.
Also, they are using the stock ECU from the NA. They have no fuel controller. I believe that they are using the stock injectors. (98% sure) I can't read the air signal, can't read the o2s, and can't read just about anything but the owners manual with this car. the guy also insists he brings it to an awd dyno in appleton.
So, is there anyway to tune this thing? I mean, I don't even know what to adjust. I don't think I can adjust fuel pressure, I now that there is no fuel controller. The only thing I can think of is a resistor on the power wire to the fuel pump.
help.
