Holy crap! There's a lot of mis-info in this thread. John, Matt.... Thanks Aaron for the link. The answers to the swap are there. In fact, I think i've come up with a way to install the engine w/o shortening the mounting holes for the rear motor mount. Milky, I've posted details on a FWD to AWD swap a few times on here. Just do a search.

Well I'll tell you what. The 3/S isn't the "end all" but it's been proven time and time again that our engines are easy to f*** up while rebuilding. That and it's about a couple hundred bucks more overall to get a rebuilt from Ray rather than crossing your fingers and praying the engine turns out well at a local machine shop.
Also, if the engine fails, a shop will just tell you that you installed it improperly. Getting the engine done locally offers no advantage other than removing the hassle of packaging a crate and saving a couple hundred (while you're otherwise spending thousands anyway).
By the way, TTangel, thanks for the referral to Beyond Redline. Luke saved me some moola today by hotwiring my radiator fans for me. Hell of a lot of DSMs over at that shop, and there was a white GT-R out back. I'll definitely be bringing my car to him when I'm ready to tune it.

If you go to a local shop worth it's salt, they will stand behind the engine. Its just up to you to find that shop. I'll leave it at that. Your welcome about the Beyond redline. Luke made his name with the DSMs, so there is alot of them there. He has also been picking up a lot of the camaro crowd lately as well. that GT-R made dyno pulls at his shop to see what the HP at the wheels was. It is an impressive car. I wonder if the guy will mod it or not, they have an impressive black box in that car.

I live in oshkosh, I am just now getting done with my swap. Plan on a lot of time/money. If you need any details let me know. EDIT:: Thought I should share my expierence.. BEYOND REDLINE, informed me that not only would the swap be almost impossible but that they would also NOT do it for ANY amount I offered. So I did it myself .

Jeff in Milwaukee didn't sound at all fazed when my original plans included a 6G74 swap. Other than the oil pan, the fabs are pretty minor.

I don't mind beyond redline myself, but a few of my friends have had really bad experiences there in the past.

Regardless, I will more than likely have it tuned there. I've heard good reviews from people, thats why I called in the first place. Anyone have their car dynod or tuned at Redline?

Yes, I have had mine dyno'd and tuned there. I would go there again. in fact I planned on it. I am also suprised they turned this project away, but I don't think they are incredible experts in 3/S's. I also believe that they have one or two in there right now with tranny problems, and they are at their wits end trying to get parts and they probably just want to wash their hands of the whole mess. I have also heard horror stories, which was why I was hesitant to get my car tuned there in the first place, but they did a really top notch job. I believe most of the riff raff that worked on cars at their old building has moved on. but I could be wrong. Luke also really knows his way around AEM. I have not had anything else tuned there. An engine swap can run up a large bill in a hurry with labor and custom bits, and most kids with dreams of granduer do not realize what they get into (project or price wise), that also could be a reason they don't want any part of it.

No point in getting fazed, it's not helpful... jeettao wrote: BkPhate wrote: I live in oshkosh, I am just now getting done with my swap. Plan on a lot of time/money.
