You had good experience with them then. I had two bad experience along with a few friends who took their cars there. Two of which are 3k. So I'm not going to bother with them about working on any of my cars. I'll probably go there for dyno runs at the most.
what happened? If you don't mind me asking?
I mean, the forum is a good place to discuss this, so that people can get a good feel for vendors and what not...
(perhaps split this thread?)
I'll just make it simple if I can.
First, had my DS ball joint replaced, it couldn't be service, so I needed a whole new control arm etc... Got it all replace for $300 something. New control arm was 210ish if I can remember correctly. After they got it all done. The mech told me I needed to change my tie rod ends or something. It was a cheap fix and he could get it done in a couple more hours only. So I agreed. Payed an extra $104. Took my car for a test drive around a few blocks. Guess what? My driver side just dropped to ground sliding a good 15-20 feet. And my DS fender was all messed up. I was only going about 20ish or so(i think) swerving my car left and right as I was heading towards redline. From where I was at, I could see their shop as my car dropped/slammed to the ground. I got out, walked to their shop and demanded them to fix everything. The mech claim everything was fine and I probably did something to it, I ended up bitching, drove less then a mile or two (around a few blocks), less then 5 min! As I was heading back, and my driver side (the side he worked on) just happened to take a shit on me. After talking to Luke about the whole situation, he had my car back up and running in good condition after 3 days. But he wasn't going to cover my DS fender. So I bought one off of 3si for cheap, color was almost right on but a bit off.
Next, Had my water pump replaced because it failed/wasn't working etc... of course redline replaced it for me, along with my timing belt. Long story short, my timing was off by a tooth or two and I bent my valves driving less then 10 miles away from their shop. Had a long argument, Luke agreed to cover for half of my parts cost, but wants me to take my car and all out of his shop and go somewhere else. I agree and just left with new heads that I paid half for. But then again, his shop was the one that messed them up in the first place, So I was obviously not happy at all.
Buddy christian (real name) took his black '94 vr4 there. Had his car tuned up, 120k service. After he got his car back, it had problems that were never there. Like over-heating, smoking etc... Took it back to them, they claim it was something else and the 120k they did wouldn't have effected the car to over-heat etc... "IT COULD" be the thermostat, according to redline. Of course, my buddy had no idea as this is only his second car, and believe in every shop etc... He brought it to me and I replaced the thermostat with a new auto zone thermostat, I also changed the radiator cap. Still had the same issues. I just told him to take it back to redline, and tell them to fix the issue cause there were no issues before redline worked on it.
After two weeks, got the car back from redline, drove it from redline, to appleton(did some shopping) then we drove it to sheboygan, idle was a bit funny. But it wasn't jumping a few krpm, just a hundred or so. And the car will over heat if we go 70mph or more, you'll notice it climbing up until you let off and cruise around 60ish for it a bit. Also noticed his car couldn't hold boost to 12psi(where we set it at), and turbo's had no play in them. Had less then 200 miles on the whole motor after getting it back from redline.
Same night, me and my cousin helped him find the boost leak, which was a small line that goes into the back of the Y-pipe, it wasn't connected. That seemed to fix the issue. Took it for a joy ride and I noticed a lot of smoke out the exhaust. It was black with a tint of blue. I didn't notice it till now. Wasn't sure if it was there earlier or not. But then again, we haven't even gotten on the car at all yet. And it was a bit chilly, so exhaust smoke would be easier to see.
Next morning, towed it to redline to check everything again, they wouldn't because they said they "KNEW" we beated the hell out of the car. I told them, I've owned two 3k before and know a bit about them, and we did not beat the car at all. Told them all the issues etc... They wouldn't look at the car without us paying them for it. So my buddy agreed. Don't know what happened there, but redline told him he was burning oil and the head gasket could be shot.
Had redline replace the head gasket and they "recommended" the heads to be shaved etc... Which they did a hack job on it and it costed him $1400. They charge him again another 300 just to install the heads back on. And charge him for another head gasket. He payed for everything and everything was installed and the car ran perfectly fine afterwards. Or so we thought.
Then driving back to sheboygan from redline, ROD KNOCK. right when we got off the exit to enter sheboygan. Pulled over, got the car towed home. I came and checked up on it at night when I got off work. Checked the oil, and turns out we barely had 2 quarts of oil. And there was no way we lost 2 quarts of oil driving 60-70miles back from redline. Called them up the next morning and they said/claim they put in new oil and made sure it was perfect before we came to take the car. They couldn't explain why the car would've broke down again. Forgot who I talked to on the phone, but the guy said that the vr4 was a piece of shit and had issues left and right, and they tried their best to get it fix and they did, but we kept breaking the car and kept returning it to them expecting them to fix it for free, he will not fix it unless we pay him for it. He wouldn't even look over it for free. Then after countless hours and few days of arguing and bitching over the phone. I just said fuck it. And fuck there shop.
My other buddy experience was a small one, so I'll leave that out unless you really want to hear it. I thinked I typed enough for now.
