April 1, 2015
Over the past eighteen years, I’ve met a lot of people and made a lot of friends being part of this community. Some even good friends. I’ve seen a lot of members and a lot of cars come and go. I’ve had a blast, driven a lot of tracks, been to a ton of gatherings from here to the East Coast, and even won some trophies and been published along the way.
Back in 2003, we set up this club with the following mission in mind:
On behalf of all 3000GT and Stealth owners and enthusiasts worldwide, we’d like to welcome you to the Wisconsin 3000GT/Stealth International car club! We are excited to have you join and look forward to your participation in our chapters’ events and growth.
Enclosed you’ll find a club decal, along with some business cards. We hope you’ll display the decal proudly on the glass of the rear hatch of your 3000GT or Stealth and use the business cards to spread the word whenever and wherever you can.
As you know, while we had humble beginnings, we are trying to assemble and become a first class chapter. But to do that, we need your help. Because we’re new, we have the opportunity to get the respect our cars deserve – respect from Porsche and BMW clubs, and the general public. Why is this important? This will open up many doors for us as a chapter relative to events, exposure and future benefits.
To reiterate, W3SI's mission is to assemble and organize a state chapter of 3000GT and Stealth owners and enthusiasts, second to none. Our chapter and website have been designed to:
Provide a means of contact with other Wisconsin owners
Offer a central location of resources and information concerning the 3000GT/Stealth (3/S) platform
Locate "how to" instructions and procedures for do-it-yourself car diagnostics and repairs
Supply links to repair shops and experienced tuners
Offer information regarding performance upgrades
Post details about upcoming events and gatherings to meet other 3/S owners around the state
We know it’s all about the cars, so our gatherings will focus on that. We’re hoping to involve everyone and anyone with tastes as diverse as road racers, drag racers, and car show buffs. But, we’re also hoping you get more from your experience here and get to the know members a little more too. Each one has his/her own special talent and ability and brings something to the table. While our diversity will give us an edge as a chapter, it also gives you a resource as a person. Use it wisely.
Our goal is that we as a chapter have fun, share our knowledge and most of all – drive. And because we put this chapter together for you, please feel free to offer any suggestions or ideas you may have. Until then, here’s looking forward to seeing you at our next event.
Sincerely,
Scott J. “SJ” Cowan Co-founder
If you became a member of this club before all the changes went down, hopefully you remember receiving this in a welcome letter packet, with your decal, some business cards and a link to print flyers to pass out and attract new members.
It was kind of cool to see folks from as far away as Florida and British Columbia join up. Unfortunately, it’s only inevitable that things change, people change, and therefore – the club has changed.
With that in mind, I’d to thank everyone who has helped this club out, and create the brand that W3SI managed to become.
I wish you all well and hope to see some of you around this season.
Please go and sign up on Curt’s new board, Upper Midwest Mitsubishi Owners. This gathers us all back together, as in the beginning – only better.
I urge all of you to keep and restore them, not crush them – they are very, very rare birds indeed.
See you at the track.
Best,
SJ
